to arrange a singles knockout match?
Have been in contact with the guy I've been drawn to play in the 1st round of one of our club comps. Has to be played by the end of May.
You'd think it would be simple, but after consulting diaries, the only times we have available are either Sunday 20th May (and he's not keen on playing that day as he is playing in a club match the day before) or an early tee off time (7.10am) the following day.
Bloody work and other commitments getting in the way on both sides!
Thank God it's not a betterball competition!!

This why I never enter.

The worst is better ball by far, especially if there is loads of money on the outcome. The winners of our summer better ball get about two grand. If you get into round three its six hundred. So no one wants to play til they are in form. Try getting all four players, in form, not on holiday, in a six week period.

Good luck.

Much the same here - although it's more tricky for mebeing a 5-dayer. Most of the other entrants only play weekends.

Anyway...

I hate Matchplay..

I am due to play my son in our society knockout and we see each other every day and are finding it difficult to arrange a date.
My shifts, his shifts, our other knockouts and comps, my holiday, society days, football, my mothers 80th birthday.
We even had a date set and he had to change because of work. Fingers crossed for April 30th.

How much? Is it even allowed to play for that amount?

Smiffy at least you got 2 got in touch early on, too many leave it for 3 weeks, wonder why they can't find a suitable date for those concerned and then expect an extension. That's part of why I quit playing singles knockouts (continued with the betterballs, foursomes and mixed foursomes because of commitment to playing partners) before I left the club.

If you're the challenger, give them the necessary number of dates as per rules of the competition and let them decide which one they can make, easy ;)

I thought any prize over five hundred pounds was not allowed in Amateur golf?

I thought any prize over five hundred pounds was not allowed in Amateur golf?

Rules say an amateur golfer may not accept a prize over value of £500 - so would assume a pair could get a grand between them. So the "playing for about 2 grand" possibly over the limit?

As for the OP - yes, it always seems a bugger to arrange matches

yep - that's the cash/prixe voucher limit per person per competition..........and people occassionally seem surprised that individuals would ever want to play off a 'slightly higher handicap' that might appear appropriate.....

This comp is against at least three of the rules. It is an auction, the prize money is way outside the allowance for an amateur, and in agreeing to play in it, you are condoning breaking the rules, which is a dq. But, it's a 'tradition' at my club, so it's ok. Apparently.

I normally give it a miss, on principal, but got talked into it this year. Already regretting it. Sportsmanship is often the first casualty.

I don't usually have too much trouble in the singles at our club, nor to be fair the better ball. The one I really struggle with is the Volvo when its someone from a different club. Their competition dates clash with your free dates, they can't play midweek, can only do such and such. The problem is doubled for the better ball. I put in a complaint about our opposition in the BB last year a they only offered one sepcific date (against the rules) and Hawkeye and I had to make a huge effort to get off work to meet them. To be honest Volvo didn't give a toss (poor form in my eyes as they had a set of published rules which these two were flouting) and just wanted the ties played any which way

Think I may be misunderstanding but if you accept a prize of more than 500 quid then you will lose your Amateur status.
