I suspect progressive clubs will do their best to encourage all sorts of members, including those that do not have the time to hang around. And non progressive ones won't adapt to the times and look down on those who don't always spend another hour or so out of the house.
I am all for supporting a club, but a lot of people also have jobs and families, and not everyone is lucky enough to be able to spend another hour or so on top of the 4 hour round, plus the time taken to drive there and back. And I'd never look down on those that do not stay.
I think Bluewolf made a good point, if clubs are so desperate to get people to spend money and time in the bar then lose the silly dress codes (yes I know, I always bang on about it, but in this case I think it is relevant) and you may make it more of a meeting place for more than just golfers who have played that day.
