yeah been having a look at property prices there lately, Cambs dearer than Beds in the main, shame Lincolnshire is so far from the in-laws!!!!
Even then places like Stamford are so expensive and largely Londoners now. Nothing like when I grew up there

A lot of people living and working in London are not really living London.
I commute in, commute out, and live on the outskirts. I think we pay a little premium to have the opportunity if we want to, but not always want to live London. Maybe once the little one is big enough.

Always lived round London. Not in it, although did do a 6 month stint on Marylebone road. Never used any of the London facilities though while there though.
My job, and Mrs Mogs jobs are based in greater London. Just are.
Bought a house in Watford. I have seen an insane increase on my investment in property. Although not realised unless I move elsewhere.
The big thing for me has been the increase in traffic. It is now mobbed. 10 minutes to the golf club is now 20, 30 minutes home from work is now an hour.

10 minutes to the golf club.
20 minutes to work, or 30 - 40 on the motorbike (scenic route ;) )
35 minutes to Gatwick
40 minutes to Heathrow
45 minutes to Stamford Bridge on public transport
60 minutes maximum to the West End or O2 on public transport

And most importantly at this stage of life, close to specialist heart & cancer units (yes, I know it's cheerful but it's also a reality of life :( )

Remind me again why it is I need to move?

Some friends of ours did it & we visit them every 18 months or so. Great for a few days R & R, and I envy them the biking roads, but 24/7 it would drive me up the wall.

Agree..... I grew up in East London, now live just outside London and I love it, good money, plenty of work, every facility Including a tube station within a mile or two. Tomorrow afternoon going to the Covent Garden winter market then a show, then late supper at the Ivy grill, love it. Concerts, sports, great days out, it really is the centre of the civilised world.... ?I enjoy visiting relatives in Scotland and Cumbria but after a week I’m pretty bored of it!

To a large degree I'd say it's what you're used to, or have grown up with. I'm sure some can successfully make the transition, but equally for some of us it just wouldn't work.

Just moved out of London.

Was great for some stuff, but never really felt safe.

Cost of living being more expensive is just a myth. Tesco/Aldi/Waitrose is the same price everywhere in the country. I have paid £5 a pint in pretty much every city in the country too.

Now live in Surrey, 1 hour door to door to central London, 10+ golf courses within 10 minutes and the 4 bed house was only bit more expensive than my flat sold for in London (y)

I think cost of living is mainly the rent / mortgage

most other things are the same

council tax might be a difference

Visit fairly often... daughter #2 has worked in central London for 16 years, living in Southwark for half of that time, and now near Surrey Quays. I love being there and find that apart from the manic centre it has a lovely village feel to it. Lots of little High Street type places, often made up of little independent shops. Everything is reasonably accessible, and with the added benefit of easy access to shows and concerts.

Wouldn't want to live in the centre but wouldn't baulk at being on the outskirts.
