Why do old people do this...........

I find myself asking the same question. Munro's inability to know the difference between "know" and "no" is unbelievable.

Almost as unbelievable as Shivas' inability to see the difference between "he's" and "his".

And before I get called a spelling/grammar nazi, please remember that if you expect people to read your rabid, vapid drivel, at least spell things properly so that your statements give me slightly less of a headache than they otherwise would.

Ah! so I am not alone, but it's not really about spelling or grammar, it's about stereotyping and sweeping generalisations and, remember, most golf clubs are only viable because of their veterans sections and the average age of male members being in the mid 50's - so Munro, without us you youngsters wouldn't have a golf course to rant about us on!

Or not blame old people all the time for whatever goes wrong in golf!

Slow play

Playing the wrong ball

Being rude

Never calling you through

Making all the stupid rules

Agreeing that the Captain has tee priority

You name it, we get the blame for it! but you too will be old sooner or later!

It's not whether or not I can read it, it's whether or not you can write it!

Funny though, isn't it, as soon as us oldies bite back, you go all defensive!

Rats! Went out to see my 'putting thought' last night and missed this vitriolic 'fun'.

@Munro. If you didn't have the b*ll*x to empty their bag (and pockets) to embarrass them (or yourself!) then that counts as 'not virtually certain' in my book, so no free drop I'm afraid. ;) A bit pointless asking oldies if they've seen your ball anyway. If their eyesight was good enough to see it, they've probably forgotten where!

And I've just mulled over the places where my ball has, was nearly, or almost certainly has been stolen. Mortonhall (certainly, nearly) Braids (almost certainly), Duddingston (almost certainly), Ladybank (certainly), Foxhills (almost, but by a Korean and they seem to play the first ball they come to, so doesn't really count).

You might notice that 4 out of those 5 were from 'parts North of Carlisle', so as a Southern based (and foreign born) player, my experience has been that it's a Scottish thing rather than an age one! :mmm:

Unless you are absolutely certain that they've picked your ball up, it's suspicion only - still a bitter pill though so you have my sympathy, in spite of others applying the 'you know where sympathy resides in a dictionary' approach!

@the rest. What a bunch of holier-than-though old codger types you (we) are! Lighten up. It's Spring and golfing weather (persisting down here, so I'm going to get wet again!)

Been an amazing autumn done here, got one of our members over there in UK working as groundsman at a cricket club and he's well hacked off at the British weather ;)

. Second, this is a part of the fairway that is not used on the other hole, because they are hitting round the other corner. .
In no way having a go here im just wondering ..
Couple of things confusing me here ,...you say its part of the fairway not used by the other hole ?? so the hole has a fairway or part of a fairway that is not used by that hole ??? eh ?
Why then would these gents / highwaymen (if you wish) be near your ball if this part of the fairway is not used by the hole they are on .. ?

I know this may come as a bit of a shock but youngsters , even ladies have been known to do this at times .. i know i know but its true .. so the title of "WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS" would have sufficed

Can someone define OLD PEOPLE for me regarding golf .. im 42 to the juniours im an aul fella & and should be somewhere between pushing up daisys & worm food , to people in their 40's im in my prime (same as them :D) , to some of the longer more established members im just a chap with years ahead of me .. me at 18 thought 42 was old , me at 65 will prob wish i was 42 or 18 again .. all relative i guess ..

So you deliberately hit your drive onto the wrong fairway, endangering the players playing that hole, without even shouting a warning.

WHY do numpties do this??!!!

I get confused by this - when is the right time to shout a warning in these circumstances?

1. before you play?
2. immedately after you hit it?
3. very loudly, just as the only other player on the course is about to putt?

Should you call your laywer before making the shot just to ensure that you aren't prima facie liable for any injury caused - you would be.

Please don't get me wrong here, blind shots exist in golf (especially in Scotland, and even more so in Edinburgh!) and many shots don't go where they are intended, but deliberately playing to an area where it is know that others will be and that you cannot observe is about the most selfish act I can think of. Any warning in such situations is irrelevant IMO.

Mr Munro
I'm sure Craigmiller Park Golf Club will not be too pleased by the comments of it's representative member on this thread.
As for old yins, you are coming accross as a spotty 12 year old on this thread.

Craigmillar Park ... isn't that the club where a male member punched a female member and got a derisory 'sentence' ... something along the lines of being banned for the winter months? Can't remember whether or not she reported it to the police.

Think she was single figure h'cap so, it couldn't have been her golf to which he took objection.

Its quite sad that all you idiots come on here giving it laldy.

And I wasn't playing my home course.

So it has nothing to do with them.

And if anyone one here has a problem with anything i have said, come and see me in person.

I honestly cant believe how this thread is going.

Some of you's had valid points, and i will take some of them on board.

But the rest of you's can bite my sihte.

I have never came across so my TRAWLS.

It really saddens me, that we cant have an adult conversation with out getting personal.

Seriously?

You come on here and post inflammatory nonsense and when people don't automatically agree with everything you say you accuse them of trolling..?

Seriously?

I think you should go and look up troll in a dictionary, because you my man, are the definition.
