Why do courses have a handicap limit?

Here's the equivalent reason from quite a tough Public course in the US!

I think they impose a handicap as a sense of self importance. No one complained at Woburn about a handicap limit. Some clubs are just a bit stuck in their ways.

see my way of thinking is, off 8, 18 or 28 how many actually play or practise in bunkers of that depth regular?

Now if it was 7000yds long with 220 yard par 3's and 600 yds+ par 5's then I doubt I would even want to play it

I would want 2 shots on every hole, I would wear a skirt, a wig and claim to be off 36!!!

I've always been led to believe it is to keep out t*****s.

plenty of t*****s with low h/cs

so the limit is more based on the difficulty due to the mahoosive bunkers then

I didnt get 2 on any as it was 3/4 handicap Saturday, played off 17 both rounds

No you didn't - you were given 17 shots by your opponents Matchplay Gibbo you got the difference between handicaps and your opponents got nowt. If it was strokeplay you should have been wearing a skirt - but not near Rick!
