PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE THIS POST IN THE ORDER OF MERIT

The last few days have been a bit strange on here. It has got to the point I am asking

WHY ARE WE ON HERE ??????

I discovered the forum last March as I was sitting gearing up for the start of the season scrolling through the GM web site and to be honest I have enjoyed it immensely.

Some of the posts have made me laugh out loud and others have had my wife asking what the hell made me throw the laptop down in anger but when I am on this forum I imagine all the guys sitting round a big table in the clubhouse puting the world to rights.

There has been an atmosphere here in recent days that has made for uncomfortable reading and now I am wondering if our little golf forum is turning into the cyber starbucks of forums, forai, forum's ... whatever it is.

I enjoy the real issues discussed by real guys where if you don't agree with their comment you can say so and still get on.

The number of folks using this forum as an avenue to plug courses, blogs, web sites and more is concerning but at the moment all we can do is highlight them to the moderator or ignore them.

To anyone using this as a highway to profit and cheap marketing

PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE OUR SACRED CYBER CLUBHOUSE FOR GENUINE GOLFERS WITH ONLY HONOURABLE INTENTIONS

This isn't an advertising site, I totally agree with that.

I have given a plug on a couple of occasions to a retailer I use. They are great guys, selling their products impartially, with care and attention. The pros there are friendly and always at hand for a bit of advice. That is why I use them and choose to give them a shout.

I have 2 businesses and have never attempted to procure custom on this forum nor will I in the future.

I enjoy my golf and enjoy talking about golf and anything related with like-minded people. I don't want to hear from somebody with the male reproductive organ attached to their head plugging their over-hyped mumbo-jumbo to me. If my game hits the skids I go to the range/shop and have a bit of time with the pro. I don't want to be hypnotised, therapised or psycho-analysed so please, don't enter a friendly golf forum, with no intent on engaging what the forum is intended for.

The majority of us here are plain and simply golfers with good intentions. Yes differences of oppinions are bound to happen but thats life.

Generally (in my limited time on here) this forum has been grand so lets keep it that way!

Good point! Recommend someone else's services or products if you're pleased with them but don't plug your own.

Don't despair, guys. It'll calm down again, I'm sure. There are far too many good guys with sensible heads on this forum for it not to.

I've been watching the last few days with interest. The one thing I've noticed is that, in the past, if a post was either a blatant plug/advert or was just plain boring then it would be met with a firm but POLITE silence. No replies. Nul points, Norway. That poster would soon get the message and raise their game for their next post (if they made one).

I suggest we all get back to grass roots again and start discussing the glorious game, but with a little decorum. Let's not rise to the bait offered by some posts if they have an agenda.

P.S. Madandra, your stunning one-liners are still much appreciated though. Keep them coming.

I'd like to buy all the genuine forum members a beer sometime, in recognition of making my evenings more fun than the telly!

I'll see you all at the West Course, green fees also on me!........

P.S. In the October issue of the mag, HomerJSimpson's post "Statto or Saddo" has been featured, albeit highly edited. The original threads to that post made me laugh out loud. I dread to think which post the editors will be able to choose from for next month given the current state of play. I know we don't really think about that when we're posting but it's nice to know that a post is at least interesting and polite enough to commit to print.

I think that we should stuff the order of merit and get back to the good old days when you used to sign in and there would be 5 or so really good topics which would make you laugh. I am not here to win prizes i am here to talk about golf and to see others opinoins about the game.

Madandra,

Don't leave! The recent spate of adverts has been a little alarming but as John said, it'll all calm down again soon. With the end of the Fed Ex Cup, the Solheim, start of the Ryder Cup points as well as all the stuff relating toi the amateur game, there's loads good stuff to talk about.

I've been away for a while and it's gone crazy. So many posts so little time. Birdieman come back - your advice and opinions are much valued.

I joined the forum to chat to others like myself to talk about golf and our own rounds and some rules that we cant understand. If I want to buy something I won't be doing it on here I will go to my local golf shop and speak to someone face to face. I would love to hear about other's great rounds of golf and find out where all the regulars are from and which courses you play, thats why I joined this forum. To meet other golfers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Muttlee,

I play at Craigielaw Golf Club, East Lothian. Just a spit away from Muirfield. Grand views but damned windy. I've certainly learned to "get over the ball" since I joined. Howabout yourself?

I play at Blackwood just outside Bangor in Northern Ireland. It's a pay and play course but has a club of members attached, so it feels a bit like a half way house between a muni and a members' course. It has a par-3 course as well, which is always good for a bit of short game practice (which I desperately need!)
