Some years ago the then EGU (English Golf Union) had an Associate Members scheme specifically for non-club members, which gave them an official handicap.

I remember that..……….forced to rather than going willingly.
Jacklin was introducing a Great British Golf Club plan to operate a national alternate handicap system.
I was invited to the launch which was quite amusing.
Especially his comments on dress codes whilst being filmed in the clubhouse by a cameraman clad entirely in denim wearing trainers.:love:

PS, Probably good to relate this to the wonderful period when you could not get an official handicap without joining a golf club and you could not join a golf club without an official handicap.:unsure:

It was created when clubs were fully subscribed and membership was impossible to get but closed down when club membership started to decline significantly.
