Nice and simple

Who runs your club

Is there a golf manager or golf secretary ?

Run by committee or by an owner ?

What is the make up of your management structure

And would you like to see some changes or do you think it works well ?

We have very small group of owners, who are represented by 1 owner who works as a general manager. We then have a committee who will assist in day to day decisions.
But as the GM/Owner says - "If I don't agree with what they're saying, then it doesn't happen."

The guy is a former sportsman, and is now a decent golfer. Works well in my opinion..

At my former club, we had the usual committees (private members club). It appeared to be a bit of a cliquey merry go round that constantly favoured 1 certain demographic. I wasn't keen, so I moved...

The lady members!
Especially that elite group who are full playing members and play social golf in the middle of mens comps on Saturdays but will not allow full playing men on the course on Tuesdays until 1230.
Equality,what equality!!!!
Rant over,

Private members club run by secretary and committee/sub committees.

Without having anything to compare it too, as it's the only club I've been a member of, I'd say it is run extremely well. Nice clubhouse, very good catering, lovely bar area, very approachable and helpfull pro, well stocked pro shop, loads of comps, excellent practice area (range, pitching, chipping, bunkers and putting areas) and a championship standard links course. What's not to like about that little lot? :)

What would I change? I'd maybe update the interior a wee bit, nothing wrong with it btw, just a personal taste thing.

the club is owned, and the owners employ people to run the club

there is an extremely active relationship between this side of things and the club members with the club committee consisting of the Club Manager, Membership Manager, Director of golf, Captains & VCs, Comp Sec, Handicap Sec, Rules & Greens, SAVs Rep chaired by the Captain.

It's a fairly common underlying structure for propitiatory clubs - however the practical operational elements can differ hugely!

Owned and run by a small group of owners tends to work pretty well. In addition the mens and womens sections have their own committees but they really only deal with the golf side of things and none of the actual running of the club

Ours is run by committee though the club employs a manager to deal with much of the day to day running and admin.

The owners of the course are Crown Golf and they have their General Manager to deal with the day to day running.

Competitions/handicaps are orgainised and controlled by the respective committees (Mens, Ladies and Seniors).

Club Secretary/Manager; Golf Manager/Pro; Board of Directors (Members); Members Committees/Sub-Committees.

The Club Secretary/Manager; Golf Manager/Pro roles are new this last few months (previously we had the traditional Club Secretary and Club Pro roles) so we look to see how it works. I suspect responsibilities between these two roles will take a bit of settling down.

All those people and still no sand in the bunkers

Possibly because you keep taking however much they put into them out! Stay out of the bleedin' things!

I believe the HGK at St Andrews once replied along the following lines to a rather famous Golfer who suggested there wasn't enough sand in to bumkers... 'Sir, there's sand all the way to Australia in the bunkers!'.

Correct. It is becoming an issue. Have you considered writing in? I'm thinking of putting the question in writing and just seeing if they have a plan. I think I know the answer

Be careful what you wish for. There is too much sand in ours and if you go in one your are lucky if you can even see the ball.
