Who is the better golfer?

Following on from the talent thread:

Two golfers, both playing off a 10 handicap.

Player A plays with a tour model driver with a 440cc head, in a traditional shape. He has a set of blades, 2 to sw, and a bladed putter. He has a nice looking swing that is the product of coaching and hard work on the practice ground.

Player B has a 460cc offset square headed driver, 3 hybrids, a set of offset irons with massive perimeter weighting in 5 to sw, a chipper, and a putter that wouldn't look out of place on Star Trek. He has never had lessons, does not practice, and has a swing that looks like an octopus falling out of a tree.

Which is the better golfer?

What has the equipment got to do with it? Player B may be more than capable of playing with blades but chooses not to. Equally, player A might be better if he played with player Bs clubs.

There are a few tour pro's playing with Titleist AP1s and I dare say plenty of club olfers playing to low handicaps with MBs. Would the club golfer be a pro if he switched to AP1s? Unlikely.

I guess it all comes down to the definition of "better" golfer. In terms of their ability to shoot a score they are both the same. How they do it makes absolutely no difference at all.

I would argue that player B has more "natural" talent because he shoots the same scores without having to work on his game or take lessons and I don't believe that the equipment will make that much if a difference.

Player A has the better chance of becoming a better golfer as he is prepared to put the effort in to improve.

If going by sheer natural talent then B wins, but the question "Who is the better GOLFER?" That to me means who respects the game more who performs better regularly, If A maintains his 10 Handicap regularly then I'd say he's better or if B does the same then fair play to him, but if either only plays a few tournaments every so often and isn't as consistent as their opponent who regularly shoots low scores then it would have to be the hard playing "regular" who gets my vote.

In saying all of this though they are both fictional so it doesn't matter!!

You say that but they're both constantly appearing on the RandA pages cited for breaches of almost every Rule going, so on second thoughts they're both cheating $%^£&!'s

Damn those cheats, I bet they're slow and never let anyone play through either :D

Out of the two, which was JustOne?!!!

Oi!!!! You knob it round 9 holes 1 over par ONCE PER YEAR and suddenly you can ask stupid questions and point fingers like that

...........I'm player B of course :D:thup::D:whoo:

Neither player is better, they're both crap,..... not off single figures ;)

Phew, that's a relief as I am player A..................................!If they both play Ping's then fair play to them for playing off 10 at 75.................................!!

Newbie here, so go easy on me ;)

Surely if they have the same handicap they are same. If player A is comfortable with his clubs, dispite being older or whatever then doesn't that make equipment irrelivant? Should player A pick up player B's clubs and not get on with them, does that then make him a worse player?

For what its worth, all the pro's have the best equipment available, we don't doubt their ability ;)

They are both the same being off 10. Doesn't matter who has the nicest clubs, they play to the same h'cap.
player A is only handicapping himself by using the gear he does, I know this because I have had similar set ups for the last 3 year's. Yeah your bag looks great, people admire it and so on, but end of the day the whole point of the game is to shoot the lowest score possible. And A being off 10 using the gear he does he's only limiting himself. Look at it this way, who would you rather play for money ? A or B ? Me being off the same handicap as these two I'd pick A all day long.
