Hello all,

I'm about to treat myself to a new set of irons, I'm going to replace the second hand ones I bought last summer when I first started playing this wonderful game.

I'd like some advice as to what extra clubs I should buy to add to my set. I've bought a new Cobra driver, a Callaway 3W and an Odyssey White Steel Putter, and I'm very happy with all of these. But now it's time to replace the irons.

I've decided to go with the Cobra S9, 5-PW set. My question is, should I buy a Gap wedge or Lob Wedge ? Or both ? :D

All advice appreciated, thanks in advance.

With those Cobras i would get a Gap wedge i sure you can get them in the same model, there is a 10 degree gap between PW and SW

Good clubs

I think the PW is 44 degrees

Its best to find out how far you hit that then get a couple of wedges to fill the gaps

For example my wedges go

PW 46- 125
GW 52- 105
SW 56- 85

so you get a nice blend of distance between the scoring clubs

Specs for your S9 irons can be found here
http://www.cobragolf.co.uk/irons/specs.asp

Looks like they are saying GW would be 49'
SW would be 54'
& LW would be 59'

44degrees seems very strong for a PW. So looks like a good start would be a GW & SW.

Sounds like your main option is to go with the addition of what they suggest from the S9 range. I've considered various ways of only adding 2 irons & the only compromise that makes any sense is 50 & 56 degree. But to me sounds a compromise of the extreme. Depends how much loft you want with your wedges

Thanks for all your help.

I'm hitting my current PW about 110, I've no idea what the loft is. I bought a cheap set of clubs (RAM 3G Concept) to see how I got on with the game.

Now that I am completely addicted to golf, I've decided to invest in some decent clubs. The Cobra S9's look like the clubs for me, I've been happy with the way my driving has improved with the Cobra 454 I purchased, so I've decided to stick with Cobra for my irons.

FYI I Intend to get a GW and a Baffler Hybrid to go with my shiny new irons. I'm looking forward to my first fitting session on Thursday, I'm a bit nervous as to how it'll go.

I have the Cobra S9's (4-SW), awesome irons and as andiritchie says there is a large gap between the PW(44) & SW(54). Was advised to get the GW by my local pro, I ended up dropping the Cobra SW and got some MD NV Drew wedges (48/52/58).

By the way I have a Cobra Baffler 20deg hybrid for sale if you intrested.

Today I am a happy man.

I've just purchased the Cobra S9 5-GW. I'm not getting the SW, I've got a 56.10 Vokey which is the same loft as the Cobra S9 SW. I've gone for the 23' Baffler TWS. The pro at the shop was a great help, just a few small grip and stance adjustments made a great difference to my shots, I really impressed myself, now I can't wait for my clubs to be ready. As soon as I'm back from hols, I'll be booking up for lessons straight away.

Bring on Summer !!!

Thanks for everyone's advice.
