hi all, im new to the forum

im only a now and then player, would love to play more but due to me working out the country its very hard.

i had a full set of ping raptures (not the v2's) which when i bought them were only a few months old and only been used once.

while i was away working, somebody broke into my shed and thought there needs where greater than mine and had my clubs away.

my insurance company have agreed to replace the clubs, like for like. this company called direct golf got incontact with me on thursday, they convinced me to not have the pings and go for taylormade burners, they came yesturday and iv opened then today, to be honest they dont have the same look of quality as the pings, and iv looked on the net and the taylormade are half the price of pings.

i have a 30 day trial on the new clubs. what should i do, send then back and ask for a set of pings, or are the taylormade clubs good.....

please help.

All I can suggest is try them and see how they feel. If they are the TM Burner 09 they are a pretty decent club and I think performance wise may even be a little better in terms of flight and distance.

Welcome to the forum anglianpower.

I personally would tell direct golf to shove their half price burners where the sun dont shine.

direct golf dont stock pings which is the reason they persauded you with the TMs.

get back in touch with your insurance company and tell them they cant supply you with your preferred make/model, and they should pass the info on to a ping stockist.

Hope this helps

You've been done mate....

Like for like means just that. Insurance companies work with specific retailers so they can save money. What this means is that rather than send you replacement Pings, this company is probably offering Taylor Mades so it then "bills" the insurance company for less money.

I happens all the time. Are the Taylor Mades the same price (RRP) new?

Sometime it works for the customer and sometimes not. I had a bike stolen and was sent to a specific shop to choose a new bike (of a different make). My original bike was £250 and the shop owner (who knows me) offered me a replacement bike for £249 EXCEPT he told me that the insurance company would only give him £178 or something.

I phoned them and told them I was unprepared to accept the suggested bike because it wasn't as well equipped. Surprise, surprise, they told me to go back and choose the next model up. I chose a bike that retailed at £279, they agreed and the shop owner got "paid" £214 i.i.r.c. Everyone wins, I say.

If you happy with the TMs, accept them.
If you feel they are not the same value (RRP) or quality, your policy protects you and you could in fact sue them, if you could be bothered. Mostly these things are IMPOSSIBLE to resolve, but more often than not, if you push the insurers they'll back down to a certain extent.

If you had Raptures and wanted the same or the current "equivalent" you'd probably have a case to reject what you have accepted.....if they coerced you unfairly, they are in breach of contract. Proving you were coerced could be tricky.

Good luck

Is the correct answer
;)

Yes, and since DG don't stock Ping, you'd be in a very strong position to argue your case. If you wanted "like for like" and they sent you to DG, they sold you a pup.

i went to buy some clubs from them, a putter, and when i entered my contact details they called me 5 minutes later and tried to flog me the burners aswell. its because they just basically dont want them because no-one would ever dream of playing with them. i say get ur raptures back they are alot better

When my bike got nicked, our insurance put me in touch with halfords to sort out a new one but because they never stocked specialized i refused politely to deal with halfords and i ended up being supplied by a specialized dealer.

Also, how do DG know them TMs are suitable for you?
If your not 100% happy do not except them

I wouldnt go for the Burners, they are just trying to push them as they don't sell well and the resale value will be nothing compared to any set of Pings.

you've got a 30-day trial, so try them but don't leave things to the last minute.

get onto the insurance company soonest and tell them you're not happy with the quality etc but will give them a fair trial whether you will or not, but tell them you will.

check with Ping, they may, probably will, be able to supply new Raptures.

give it a few days get back to the insurance and dg, tell them they are not suitable and that you would really like a direct replacement for the Pings, and that Ping can supply.

Get in touch with your loss adjuster. Explain to them that Direct Golf cannot supply you with a like-for-like replacement, as olf clubs are a very personal choice, and that you would prefer being able to go into a shop in order to try the clubs to make sure they suited you. They should agree to send you a cheque for the value insured (less excess) or come to an arrangement with your preferred supplier. Be firm, but not argumentative, and they should be happy to help.

I had the same issue when I had my bikes stolen (twice!) and the above worked for me.
