Hi, I was recently advised that when hitting a 7 iron you should always focus on a spot about 4 inches to the right of the ball when striking it. Is this good practice? If so, why and would you do this for all golf shots including tee shots, chipping and putting? When I did this in a round my golf seemed to have got worse. Previously I had always looked at the ball and tried to keep my head still.

I agree that that doesn;t sound like good advice to me. IMHO it's only on bunkers shots where you are intending to hit well behind the ball that you should do this.

It's hard enough getting the clubface back to the ball in the right position without not looking at it. Look at the ball

4 inches behind the ball is where you hit it really FAT You're trying to hit the back of the ball so that's where you're focus should be. :D

This is gonna wreck my head now. When I was asked how I breathed during my shot I went to pieces for weeks.

Cheers Ellis ;)

Madandra, Make sure you keep some plasters in your golf bag. With that grip, you're going to need them soon :D ;)

Just look at the ball, I have tried to focus on certain points of the ball like back and front, just makes my eyes go funny.

Why you bothered anyway, as soon as you start your back swing your meant to shut your eyes and hope for the best :D

Hello Rob
I think whoever told you this is having some fun at your expense. I would go along with it tell him that it is the best advice that you have ever been given and that your ball striking has never been better.
:D
