Where have you been made to feel most welcome?

I don’t believe it! It is snowing outside. Ok, it’s only a few flakes but it’s snowing. Only last week it was so hot
I was walking in the shade of the trees just to get cool.
Last Tuesday it was a sunny 72 degrees and I was lucky enough to have arranged an away day to
Oakdale Golf Club in Harrogate. The course is wonderful and if you have not played it, you should. It is an Alexander McKenzie designed course, lots of quirky mounds and riveted fairways, two level subtle greens that are truly scary. In short it is a real gem, not Augusta, but a real cracker. I’m sure you will love it, not least for all the warmth that you will be welcomed with. I would like to thank them for a great day and ask the forum.

Where have you been made to feel most welcome? Where have you thought, Wow, What a day, what a course?

In recent memory, Woburn. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the starter/steward that accompanied our GM group for the day was excellent (from the introductions and info on the 1st tee through to following the entire group round making sure we kept pace (without being at all intrusive) and despite being a more "elite" golf club, even the members I ran into were welcoming and friendly.

Beau Desert was great as was Woburn. I never felt uncomfortable or intimidated at either and was made most welcome :thup:

Tyrrells Wood in Surrey. Pro was really friendly, stepped out onto the 1st tee with us to show us the line and couldn't have been more obliging. Especially as we were playing on a reduced (half price) green fee.
Lovely course too!

For me Castle Stuart stands out as a really special place and a cracking course. You could argue that at the top level, great customer service should be a given. Castle Stuart were certainly very impressive the day we played there with GM in 2010 with their customer care.

I was on a Mizuno Forum outing last year to Brampton in Cumbria and they were very welcoming and treated us very well indeed. Brampton was a very nice course as well. An undulating parkland course with some great holes and some great views. A nice clubhouse and good catering. In fact, they did so well for us that we're going back there again this year

Appleby in Cumbria. Used to go to their Easter Open weekend but my liver couldn't cope. Fantastic bunch of guys, and you're soon included in all the banter.

A few similar stories with UK courses, however, on a boys mini Ryder cup in Oregon it was simply outstanding at every course we played, from being met as we arrived and clubs taken and put on respective carts to the on course beer girls, catering staff, administration etc etc courteous friendly welcoming and engaging. Had similar in Ontario last year at courses that ranged from municipal to private.

Know what you mean, Lamlash Open on the Isle of Arran is a bit like that too. You need a week to recover from that one.

Fulford Golf Club, York

Had been treated to a day there with a meal afterwords.
Every single member or staff member spoke to us, talked to us and were very welcoming and directed us when we were looking around. Course was in good condition but given the time of the year they were doing a bit of work which was understandable.

Really pleasant day.

For me, Sawgrass in Florida, it was just the best experience all round and everyone made us feel hugely welcome (especially once the locals found out we were Scottish and expected us to be practically pro's - but it was still fun).
Over here, Archerfield Links, again nothing was too much trouble and the wee touches like your bag on the 1st tee for you was great - felt like a millionaire for just one morning but it was still a great, if short lived, experience.

Ganton in north Yorks (ex ryder cup venue).

It was slighly frozen when I arrived for a 9.00 tee time. It was closed until 10.30. The starter said I could go out, but just dont play to the greens, play a few holes, come back at 10.15 and he will see if he can pair me up with some others, as I was on myown, being on holiday.

I played in a roll up with some great fellas, loved the course and I have an invite back.

The starter/caddymaster was good service personified and a great chap who also stopped for a nice chat.

Turnberry where also great, although the ale was mega expensive.

At my own club when I joined as a new member last year. Pro's, club staff and officials were all very friendly and fellow members soon inducted me to the weekly roll-ups on a good course in great condition.

All I need to do is learn to play!
