I tend to go to whichever side the trouble is on and aim away from it. Hardly foolproof with my driving at the moment but at least I feel as though I'm doing the right thing. Perfect until that club begins its journey

The first thing I look for is a flat area, if there's a choice I then look for any danger on the shot and play from that side of the tee so hitting away from the danger.
I then look for a good piece of ground that's not too muddy, and if I remember I might look for a mark on the ground and tee my ball relative to that so I can line myself up with it for the shot.

Then I carve it into the clag.

I'm all over the gaff, if I'm playing for the right side I tee off from the left, and visa versa,

One thing that always amazes me is the need to people to tee off online with the blocks, which can be bald and muddy and sometimes uneven when one club back from the markers is unscuffed fresh level turf that's crisp.

Why why why do people panic about 1 or two clubs length off a tee when they hole is 200/300/400/500 yards long and a better stance and lie from the tee box should help them, especially on short par 3's where you want a lower iron with a crisp strike

I tee up in the centre because I'm pretty good off the tee but if I do hit a bad shot it will be a hook ( which I call a power draw) and when I get a hook day , I'm confident of hooking it anywhere off the tee.

I vary my position depending on the shape of the fairway I'm trying to hit and any divots on the tee box.

Something I heard a while back (... True or not I dont know) when teeing up. If you have trouble down the left side of a hole, be it water, OOB, large bunker etc, tee up on the left side of the tee box as it will give you more room to the 'safe' side of the fairway.

I'm sure it was a piece Neil Plimmer did for GM a while back .

Edit: ..... Amd no JohnO, I didn't hear it on a Muni' in Glasgow
The late great Seve gave that tip if I think.

Not bothered myself, but I always try and steal a couple of feet and tee off in front of the blocks.

What?

I was told it when I first started playing in the early seventies - think it might have been in a book of Gary Player instruction cartoon strips I was given and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back well before that.

When you started playing in the early 70's were you also told about the universally accepted standing position when your PP's are teeing off? Or did you not golf in Glasgow?

I do exactly the same,I also favour the side where the trouble is and play away from the danger.
Driving and putting are the only parts of my game I am confident with at the moment.

no-one do what I do and tee up 1-2 club lengths back from the front- virgin grass and no divot holes:thup:
