Where did you get those from?

Had my grandads original forgan blades (before their current, cheap, reincarnation)

Had them til last year, must have been at least 30 yr old by then though.

Old persimmon driver and 3 wood aswell, not forgiving like the monsters we use now!

My first set was a Petron package set from Discount Golf Store. I didn't have these long before they were stolen and got some John Letters Irons from Direct Golf on the insurance. This was before I knew anything about golf as was offered the JL's or Mizzy MX-25s. Chose the JL's. Have since upgraded the Irons to Callaway X-22 and an Odyssey White Hot XG #1 putter only started tracking my hcap within the last year which is currently at 20.

As for woods, after the Petrons were stolen I bought 2 Wilson Staff Fybrid woods (3 and 5) which I still use today and also a Wilson Staff DD6 driver which got replaced by a Cleveland Launcher 2009 and more recently a Nike SQ Machspeed driver.

And that's where I am today.

I bought a half set of ProSimmon clubs from Windmill Hill GC in Milton Keynes one club at a time from the proceeds of my paper round.....

My father-in-law got me my first set cos I didnt know a thing about clubs or where to get them from. A set of Howson somethings and I got to 8 h/c before upgrading to a 2nd hand set of dci's. I'm now on my 3rd set which are mp 57's

My first clubs were bought in twos and threes from Argos, the woods were McGregor Golden Bear persimmons (I've still got the driver and it can hit a good ball when middled) and the irons were also McGregor, blade type of things, as they all were then.

I was given a handicap of 18 when I joined a club although I never entered any club competitions thereafter. Kept them for 5 years or so until I stopped playing. Then when I started again 15 years later I bought a second hand set of Ben Sayers and a Dunlop driver.

Dynamo irons (have never seen irons made by these guys since) and Mitsushiba woods from the bargain bin in AG, all came to about £70

I was about ten so about 1990 and was found a car boot with nan abd grandad to clear out their old crap. I walked around the boot sale looking for something to spend my £15 for helping and brought some very old irons half set in a shonky green & brown leather bag. I reckon they must have been early 80's era at best and when I got home it was straight down the local field. I spent hours scuttling the ball along the floor then my mate hit my 8 iron which looked like it went a million miles on s foggy day. We looked for almost an hour to find that ball bug that was it I was hooked

Hacked around with a half set of Slazengers from Mum's catalogue but once I decided to focus on golf I got a set of Howson DJ100 woods and irons.
These got me down to about 11 when I switched to TopFlite Tour irons as used by Ronan Rafferty and Peter Baker. Lovely clubs

Started with a 1/2 set of Petron Impalas bought by cashing in my national savings certificates. Got the rest through birthdays and christmas pressies and saving. Swapped them for a set of Ben Sayers "Ray Floyd" blade and eventually a set of Slazenger B51 blades which were the business and I played great with them.

MY first was a brass blade putter and a 9,7,5 and 3 iron pinseeker blades from Hemswell market, £3 each! (1997)

Had a kids summer membership at a local club, 3 months for £26. Played every other weekend. (97-99)

I continued to play every summer in that fashion for 4 years (until 2001). Firstly got a half set of fazer firepower (1998 or 99) irons and ben sayers 1 and 3 wood. Used those for all but the first and last year of those 4 years. Once I out grew those at 15 I bought the set I just replaced, a 3-sw set of Power Bilt grand slam oversized irons(2000/01). I had a variety of hand me down drivers from my uncle over that time as well as adding the odd birthday present (adams tightlies 5 wood, mizuno driving iron and a v steel 4 wood).

I rotated the set around, as I only played about 6 rounds a year they never wore out really but my dad did break my tightlies.

Only had 4 putters, the brass one which was quickly replaced with a anser copy (£10 worth of one in 98). That also quickly got replaced with some american thing with a weird kinky shaft and a copper face insert (2000). That was a bloody good putter until the insert fell out(2009). Had that thing for ages!

Now I have the set listed below, most of it bought within the last 12 months as I only just took the game up seriously in March 2010 after not playing more than 6 rounds a year for nearly 7 years.

Ping G15s in Feb 2010
MP-52s in Jan 2011 (2nd hand but hardly used and in great nick)
MP-t10s in Feb 2010
Ping Redwood in Jan 2010

I got my Ping Eye2+ from ebay after having a go with a mate's Pings. They were good clubs but badly needed regripped and their lofts checked and I could never get consistent with them. I've left them in the garage for my current set since last year and I finished last year with a (self calculated) handicap of 18.6. Speaks volumes imo.

I bought a set of old swilken cavity sole irons from a fellow caddy at my club. He was playing off +2 or +3 and just got some nice shiny new mizuno blades. I used the proceeds of my round caddying in the pro-am at the European Open to pay for them. I kept them until a few years ago. They were a bit battered but served me well and I even managed to shoot 1 under off the blue tees at East Sussex National West Course with them once.

My first club was a cut down six iron that my Dad got the old pro at Mitcham GC (Jeff Godfrey) to make. I lived next door to a park so all day, every day during the holidays I was out there knocking balls about.

My first 'set' were given to me by a neighbour. They were in an old bag that smelt all musty and it contained a handful of hickory shafted clubs. They were rubbish but I loved them! I've still got them as well.

My first proper set were Wilson Patty Bergs (ladies clubs). Persimmon woods - I LOVED them! My game really improved - I went from 28 to 12 in a season. I had an old bronze putter - cost £10 which I loved as well. They got nicked out of my club locker. :(

My game suffered for years after that - buying the wrong irons, etc.
