Where did you get your first golf clubs from?
Car boot sale, hand-me-downs, presents, high street shops, pro shop or somewhere else?

And how good did you get (h/cap) before you upgraded?

My first set was a set of junior Howsons. Got them as a birthday (I think) present from the parental units. I was about 8 years old.

By the time I reached 11 years old and a about a 24 handicap, I was given (or my parents bought for cheap, I have no idea which) a hand-me-down set of Lynx Parallax irons from my uncle. Which then turned into a brand spanking new set of Lynx Black Cats from Edwin Watts in Orlando a year later which got me down to my best handicap of 17.

As for Woods, my Nike SQ that I'm currently using is the only wood I've ever had from brand new (until my R11) arrives. I've had various 2nd hand woods from my Dad and my uncle which were mostly Sam Snead Persimmon Style Wooden drivers and my favourite which was the Taylor Made Burner Bubble Driver.

I've had a 2nd hand titleist 3 wood (which is still at my mum and dad's house) and currently using an 8 year old (bought 2nd hand) Adams Tight Lies2 3 wood.

A half set of Wilson blades, and a wilson 3 and 5 wood (persimmon). I had a Ping Anser copy to putt with.

My Dad bought them for me second hand to get me into golf. Pity he didn't buy the lessons to go with the sticks.

I got down to 18, (well, my first handicap was 18 anyway). He then changed his Wilson 12ooGEs for a set of Ping eye 2s, (he must have hit the magic age), and bequeathed me his 1200s.

About 4 years later I bought my first set of new irons, Cally Big Bertha Golds. I have no idea why.

first one was a piece of wood and dowel shaft putter (my dad made)to use with a ball a guy gave me while i was peeking over the edge of a green while on holiday at New forest when I was 3 or 4

real clubs
had some really old things mashies etc my parents asked my uncle to find me (im 41,not 141 b4 u say ;) )

first new club was a Wilson Sam Snead 8 iron from sports shop in the high street

first full set
Wilson Staff tour blades Fg-17's bought from club pro (who was my m8's dad ;) )

A kids set of Ben Sayers bought from the pro shop at Ratho Park GC for Christmas when I was 6 or 7. Didn't get me a handicap, but they did get me knocking a ball about. Happy days ;)

But where did you get your MP 57's from? Come on, tell us the story ;)

My first set were hand me downs from my father-in-law. A bit of a mixed bag so it wasn't long (before I'd got a handicap even) that I picked up my irons second hand in a pro shop.

I think I got a bargain at the time, especially considering I've seen mint X-18s sell today for more than I paid 3 years ago!

I can't honestly remember. :D :D

I got mine from direct golf in moreton. hotblade hb1 irons which were pretty decent to be honest. i then added a callaway ft3 driver and callaway fairway woods. the putter i was first using was a old wilson.

My first clubs were a rather odd set of three.A cobra FP 6 iron,a Nike SV 60 deg lob wedge(I still use this bad boy),and a Ben Sayers M1putter! With these awesome sticks I managed to break 100 my first game!(still my proudest achievement!)

eBay set of Hippo OS4 for the grand sum of £82, it included a stand bag, putter, 4-SW, Hybrid, 3 wood and driver!!

I started to upgrade within a couple of months, I knew I was addicted and got a Cobra F speed for Xmas and just changed bits until all gone. Wasn't playing comp golf or have an official handicap so can't say on handicap terms.

My first set of clubs were hand-me-downs through the club I used to have lessons at when I was a kid. No single club matched and I had a 'mixed bag' shall we say with some blades included there for good measure. Needless to say, I was pretty chuffed as a 10 year old although my game stank too (as it still does)!

When I was 12 my parents bought me an Acer package set from Argos...which I had up until December last year! Truly 'iconic' clubs which did we well until SWMBO bought me a lovely birthday gift and got me a new set of Yonex VMXs from American Golf. I've topped these up with individual purchases at my local club.

My Petron Impalas when I was 12 came from Santa Claus (sadly he hadnt heard of Custom Fit and they were way too big initially lol). Kept them for 3 years before getting a set of Seve SB blades.

I started with a set of Hippo OSIV bought on ebay as well. Was not that long before I became adicted to new and shinier things and at the time I was falling for every line that the manufacturers were saying. Not long before I ended up with a set of DI7 irons and a Burner driver. The DI7s lasted a while but the massive shaft on the Burner meant that I could not control the thing.

bought a Petron package set from AG. didn't have time to get anywhere with them as the head snapped off the 7-i in 6 or 7 weeks. Exchanged for a set of Ben Sayers.
