When you take out the flag...

I try to place the flag on the fringes where ever possible and if not possible I will place the flag on the ground using my foot or putter to break the fall.

Being a greenkeeper I try to protect the surface as much as possible.

However, pitchmarks are far worse and more common of a problem than the flag being dropped.

Ash!!

I use the putter to lower it, and lift it too.

played a course recently where one of the greens had holes that could only have come from using it as a javelin - into the putting surface

What really gets my goat though is those who have to have several stabs (literally) at getting the pin back into the hole. Completely B*33ers up the edge of the hole.

We've a guy in our Saturday swindle who must be alllergic to something on the pole or the flag. He never ever puts it back in even if he's the last to putt out. He gets so much earache every week but he doesn't change. Its becoming a running joke now and we're having a sweep on which day and on whic green he eventually cracks and puts one in

It should be manners if your the 1st to hole out you should lift the flag, what else are you doing?
An unwritten rule.........1st to hole out holds the flag......

Granted but we reckon he has some medical affliction to flags. Never seen him hold one less put it in. To be fair I don't play with him every round and so the chances are he does actually put one in a round but the wind up on him is great!

Agree with this ^^^

Except when the first to hole out has left their bag/trolley in a dumbass place. Then they can go and sort it out while the others putt out.

I'd be peeved if every time I was last to putt out all the rest of the group had left the green.

Another reason why I carry. I don't have to walk an extra couple of miles because I can't take my trolley near the green. :D
