When should you be expected to hit greens?

So you can see my confusion with what you are saying.

It's straight forward to me.
I hit my driver with a much harder swing than I do with my irons.
My target for my driver is 30-40 yds wide
My target for my irons is a lot less so I always sacrifice distance for accuracy.
If your easy 9 goes 150, your normal 9 will be 160 so a big 9, 170 ?

With my old irons yes it was. When I got fitted by taylormade they got me to have softer shafts 5.5 instead of the 6.5 I did have. Lost a club of distance got a lot more control hitting the irons smoothly rather than full blast.

I just can't get it straight in my head that you can hit the ball that far with the driver and regularly get around 280 but can only hit a 9 iron 135 yards, it just does not make any sense to me. Hitting the ball that far consistently is probably 40-50 yards further than the average club golfer yet hitting it very average distances with your irons.

I consider my 9 iron range as 120-130; a little lower in the winter.

I am normally last to play my second shot....so I don't consider such distances particularily unusual.
