Interesting thread this one and funnily enough I had a similar discussion with my pro last night. My swing before lessons was not good but if I played often enough I could get it round in a decent score and we decided this was down to being able to use my timing to overcome my swing faults. The problem comes when you don't play much and the timing isn't there. By building a more stable and reliable swing I will have to rely less on timing and be more consistant.

Well im going to take this to the course the weekend and see what happens....I cant be hitting it wayward any worse than i have so if there is enough of a change in things for me i willo adopt this attitude for the coming months....

I suppose i can look at it from 2 sides....It could be that because of all the work iv put in over the past 12 months some has been memorised and that im still swinging into these positions without knowing it....
Or it could be that its my natural swing that isnt manipulated in any way and thats the way i just need to play the game with freedom...

Socket,

I can't quite see the major difference in our views to be honest.

Just one clarification - I didn't say that golf was easy. I said it was simple. By that I mean that you need to hit a ball with a club in a general direction on 18 holes. That isn't the same as saying it is easy to do.

Snelly.

OK Snelly I got that bit wrong when quoting you. Sorry.

I think you are probably right, we are saying similar things, just using different words. I would just like to say again that in no way do I condone anyone playing golf with a head full of swing thoughts. That's a stupid thing to do.
