Once again he's not living up to expectations.

Is it because he tried too hard? I find he is far too agressive with his tee shots and approaches, surely if he could just find fairways and greens he'd put in a decent score. Always seems like he's trying to play the 'glory shot' no matter which club is in his hand - but especially a lob wedge.

How odl is he? What with the family illnesses he has had to go through, do you reckon that he "enjoys" the Ryder Cup experience and wants to win, but really he is not totally focussed , and that's just enough to know him off the peak performance we know he can deliver ?

He is a magician, however when big leftie is not on form, boy is he not on form! However when he's on his game he is the best in the world as he proved in the Masters this year!

Phil has always been like this throughout his career. He'll win another major, possibly more, plus he's a gentleman.

I like him a lot and it's a blessing for the Europeans that he isn't on his game. When he is on form especially around the greens and with the putter he is unstoppable as the Masters showed. Maybe he's tired, maybe he is under the weather but whatever it is he clearly isn't enjoying the experience. As much as I admire him, lets hope he has one more bad day tomorrow

He hasnt been at the races for whatever reason. Interesting match against hanson tomorrow, been impressed with hanson thus far, great iron player

Well, he can't putt, never could. Those pesky 5 footers are all going wide. Always did. Great from further away, useless from up close.

At the moment he looks like a guy who cannot wait to put the clubs away for a couple of months and enjoy a bit of a break!!

I think part of the problem is that it's always 'Tiger is the USA's No.1 man' irrespective as to how poor he is playing. If Mickelson felt that he was seen as the leader then the responsibility may spur him on more.

Given all the other stuff going on in his life I wonder if at the end of a long season, in the cold and damp, away from home, he just can't find a spark to get him going. He's always struck me as a nice guy and not the sort to get fired up by chants of "U-S-A, U-S-A". He plays with a great "lets go for it and see what happens" kind of attitude which is refreshing but maybe not what the RC demands. Agree though that it is a bit of a mystery why such a talented player doesn't do better in this event.

I agree with the others that have said he goes for it every shot.

Boom or bust is not a good way to play matchplay unless your 100% on.

I love to watch the big man play ball and I feel for him when I see how little fun he is having. As Homer says, I do hope he has another day of missed putts as sad as it is to watch.

I pretty much agree with what everyone has said so far in this post to a greater or lesser extent. I am damn sure he will be back for more in the future.
