What's the worst Course you've played?

Humberstone country club 9 hole, S*** attitude, s*** course maintainance and rough greens for an outrageous price. But Im drunk this evening so what do I know.

eaglehunter,

I totally agree. I was brought up on Wimbledon Common which was a testing if not long track and only ruined by Joe Public wandering around it all the time especially as they had right of way adn boy didn't some of them know it.

100 yards down the road was Royal Wimbledon and nearby had Malden, Coombe Wood etc. Even in sunny Bracknell I have Downshire which is a superb pay and play and Blue Mountain which is so so but still a load better than Abbotsley. Then I have Mill Ride and the big names within 20 minutes so yes I have been very lucky in my golfing life.

I remember travelling more than 100 miles to play at Pilt Down in Sussex. It was awful and since then must have improved. It couldn't get worse.

Coatbridge Drumpellier municiple is ... eh ..... fields with flags on them. They have koonsil gardenrs instead of grenkeepers and it is a total 5h1t h0le.

Agreed Madandra.

Played this for the first time this year (having grown up in the area) and was very dissapointed. Council gardeners seems to be right looking at the state of the fairways and greens.

I assume you guys are referring to "Royal Townhead"
You can thank the "Monklands Mafia" for the Cooncil gardners as well.

Drumpellier golf club is actually a half decent private members club nearby.

Oh BTW, put it down as one of my worst along with Palacerigg in Cumbernauld.

I once played at a 9 hole where it had a honesty box and envelopes for your cash, after playing the course I went back to the box and removed a couple of quid from the envelope. It was so bad.

Yep thats the one I mean (Real name 'Coatbridge Golf Club'). They also have a driving range attached which is p**s poor.

eagle/homer there are two courses at Abbotsley; the Abbotsley itself and the Cromwell, one you access from the hotel, the other from a clubhouse/range to the side of the road.

I played both and actually thought the Cromwell was passable. Played it the same day so not like the conditions had changed any. Just hated the Abbotsley and couldn't think of a single decent and memorable hole.

Homer

I have played the Cromwell course next to it and I can report that it's no better, tee boxes were like deep rough and the fairways were......... bad.

Just stay away :)

Can i ask when you last played the Abbotsley or Cromwell?

The Cromwell is my home track and i play the Abbotsley every now and again.... both courses are challenging in different ways and since taking on a new head green keeper at the beggining of this year the courses ave been in superb condition.

No memorable holes at the Abbotley? The second hole is great par 3 that can quiet easily ruin your card early in the round, not to mention a par 5 on the back 9 that is truely beautuful to look at but very tough to play. I have to agree though, slow play is a big problem on the Abbotsley, not sure why but it just takes ages to get a round in.

I play my comps and most of my golf on the Cromwell, Its really a beginners course but i've seen some good golfers struggle.... Especially with the greens, they run true as they have been lovely since march but all of them are hard to read.

A couple of memorable holes on the Cromwell aswell, namely the 15th and 16th for me.

I've known both courses to look a bit ropey over the last 2 years but with the weather we've had i think its understanable, and you'll never see them get closed due to bad weather which is great for a member.

I'd also like to say my membership is £600 per annum, not bad for just the cromwell, and a course thats playable 365 days of the year with no temporary greens.

Maybe i'm just jumping on the defensive cause it's my home course..... there' only one way to settle it, new year i'll invite you all down or up to play it.... hopefully you'll leave with better memories next time.

Piltdown is quite close to me Shanker, and I've played it a few times in the past. Other than getting quite boggy during really wet weather, I don't think it's a bad course at all.
What didn't you like about it?

Minty

In the Junior Open around July. Nothing against you personally minty, but I have played better tracks. I did however like the hole in which the green is on a severe slope and to hit you have to carry the hedge, I think its the 15th. On the plus side the food was nice :D.

No offence taken mate, you're right in thinking its the 15th and thats my favourite hole too, a good drive is a must if you want to go for the green in two.

I have also played better tracks but i'm some what dismayed as to how either the abbo or cromwell can fall in to a "worst course" debate.

People have their own views on what makes a good course and what doesn't. Is there a hole in which there is a bunker with a mound in the middle or am I thinking of another course? And the short par 5 which shares a green with the second, with the pond slap bang in the landing zone if you wish to take out the corner? Or am I mistaken again :D

Not sure about a bunker with a mound in the middle but the second has a pond in driving distance and is a slight dog leg always best to lay up i think..... most people i've seen go for it have ended up in the pond.

The 3rd hole shares its green with the short par 5, can be nasty if your ball is on the wrong level.... more than likely a 3 putt.

How did you score?
