3,4,5,6,7,8 irons.... too many exagerrated moves over the past 3yrs.

Working on a swing change to get some loft back on the face..... it's a struggle some* days

Inability to string 18 holes together.

No common theme to what wrecks my round but there's always something; driving, shanking, putting, chipping, course management, etc.

My problem as well without a doubt.

I nearly did it yesterday then on the 18th tee it came up in conversation and I promptly pulled my tee shot onto the 10th fairway and then topped the following hybrid into the clag and ended up with my first blob of the day!

Not sure what to do about really - I know people say take it a shot at a time etc but I don't see how you can stop thoughts of scores / cuts coming into your head

My weak point is my bad shots, they are not good enough!

I heading back to to being fairly all rounded in my game again, having posted both 34 points and 36 points with three blobs and a single blob respectively on a 36 hole event on Friday.

If my consistency improves this year and my bad shots become less destructive I could easily reach single figures.

From memory, Scoresaver doesn't consider distance from hole in its calculation merely birdies/GIR. So it could be that you are not getting close enough with your GIRs. And if SSS is greater than Par, you are probably hitting greens from much further away than if it was a couple of shots below Par! Your putting may be fine! FIRs (not a stat I'm particularly interested in) are likely to be much better for a short hitter than for a long one too, Stats can be misleading!

All very true and I absolutely agree with you about FIR. I wouldn't think I'm the longest hitter on the forum (I only hit 7 iron about 200 yds ;) ) but I wouldn't say I was particularly short either - I hit enough mid and short irons into the greens around my place. I'd rather miss the fairway by a couple of feet at 260 yards than be in the middle of the fairway at 230 yards. However, I know the context in which the stats are recorded - I know how long the putts are! In my match on Tuesday, I missed three separate putts from 3 feet, two of which meant I three-putted from about 15-18 ft and all of which meant I lost holes. I lost the match up the 18th. If I could putt, I'd have won.

My short game in general needs some work, as I don't get close often enough to allow myself to get up and down, but my putting is far from fine, particularly from 15 ft and in. Improving it will knock shots off my h/c faster than improving anything else.

For me it's GIR...... Not bad (not brilliant!!) off the tee but I miss too many greens meaning chips, sand saves etc which I don't always get down in 2/3 which is why my handicap is pretty rigid!!!

Had lessons and its an alignment issue and I am coming across the ball/ closing club face too early, pulling it straight left.....

But I also can't keep it going for 18.... Always seem to have 30mins where I seem to forget how to swing the club !!!!!

In qualifying comps I would have said putting but feel I'm addressing that and much improved so now I'd say driving. I'm not short (relatively) and also reasonably accurate BUT I know I can do alot better off the tee with a driver in hand. My main basis for that is comparing myself to others and will drive further than playing partners but not significantly so, and then find myself taking a 7 iron on a Par 3 or approach and the same player has a 5 wood in their hands. I feel my iron play is strong and I get the best from it in terms of distance but not my driver.

What am I going to do about it? Well I tinkered on the range and course a bit this week with grip and set up and trying to shorten my backswing but results were frustrating and in the midst of the competition season have decided to leave it alone for now. It's on my agenda to sort with a couple of lessons and plenty of practice but not just now as my scoring is good and driving is adequate!

Putting is fine but on any given day the rest of the game can be iffy. What am I going to do about it? Nothing. I accept there's going to be bad days but I know that somewhere in that round there be some great shots, and occasionally there'll be great rounds - its what golf is, so I might as well just enjoy the ride.

After my last group lesson two weeks ago it seems like everything apart from getting out of bunkers and putting has gone to pot. Have been out playing instead of practicing and I'm sure that's had a lot to do with it. Hoping it's sorted after todays group lesson and I can get back on track.
