Whats keeping you from a lower handicap?

Short game, played last week and went round in 91, worked out if I had got down in no more than 3 from 50 yards I would have saved 14 shots !!!!!!!

14 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought a v-easy, cue chipping and putting practice throughout the winter months, aiming to be back to single figure by the end on next season.

Great bit of kit. 14 times it took you more than three from 50 yards? Ye gods and I thought my short game honked. Get your ills cured and your scores will fall like a stone

Putting, especially from distance.. I too often leave my first putt well short or too far past the hole, leaving myself a difficult return.

3-putts, and occasionally 4-putts are more common than they should be on my scorecard.

My short game. Chips pitches and long putts always let me down.

Happy with my distances and generally hit the ball solid.

Short games very poor though.

Can blame it on no practice, playin 1-2 times a week tops. However I think I shoukd do better than what I do

I told my regular pp he had permission to slap me hard if i left a putt more than a few inches short. After one slap cured I'm always long now when he's watching. ouch !

Since about May I have made big strides in my game after the work I did with my teacher over last winter.
My ball striking is great now, my short game is coming on well but my aim has been a problem and is going to be worked on this winter.
The other problem I have is getting cut at our place is difficult with SS being 3 shots lower than par and CSS is regularly four shots lower even when there aren't any really good scores out on the course. I have regularly got 0.1 back when I've shot a score par to my handicap!
I know I can do it and it's the target for the next 12 months to get from 17 to single figures.

That was me 18 months ago. I was having a nightmare on the greens, 3 putting from 15 foot wasn't uncommon. I'd hit a good shot within 8 foot of the flag and never make the putt. I would loose 5 or 6 shots a round easily with poor putting. But I got custom fitted for a putter and found something that was perfect for me. I never believed in going for a putter fitting before, but this dropped my scores instantly. Is it the putter or has it just given me a psychological boost, who knows and who cares.

Distance - I don't hit it far enough to get on par 5s in 2 well anything over 400 yds in 2 actually !!!!!
Practice - Lack of. There's no range with lights anywhere near and I get one weekend pass out a week which i use for playing on.
Par 3's - Are crucial , i've found i score well when I play the par 3's well but they're all long ish and tough at our place

Too many poor drives, leading to scrambling rather than safe pars.
Not enough birdies.
Getting too aggressive when simple shots would be better.
Poor short game.
Terribly bad luck

After what I've just read, it's approach play to greens that is stopping me from getting lower. On the PGA tour 57% accounts for strokes gained through approach play, 28% through Driving and 15% through putting - per round (all are averages). It's been an interesting read.

I'd say mainly..

Belief
Short game constantly needs sharpening up.
Not aggressive enough over birdie putts (see also belief)
Bad decisions (course management)
