Whats keeping you from a lower handicap?

You'd be sorely mistaken in my case. Good course management and mind much clearer with NGT

Just using Homer's quote cos it's the most recent but a few of you have said the same thing.
But I'll stand by what I said, if your game is not up to scratch, which is what most people are saying, then I think people would be better off working out where to miss safely is rather than getting concerned that their long game short game middle game etc don't let them hit perfect shots ape very time. The question is about handicaps, not about weaknesses in one's game. HaNdicaps are about your statistical game, and I still think you can improve your handicap by course management etc than trying to keep those 3 bad holes off your card that everyone seems to have including the pros.

:)

Not sinking the birdie putts and not hitting enough GIR
My %age of birdies made per GIR isn't bad but my GIR is average.
And when I do hit a lot - I hit 13 the other week - I walk off with only 2 birdies...
My iron play is improving, my driving is definitely improving - 11 from 12 today- and that puts me in a better position to make GIR.

I've always been able to grind out the pars, making my decent scores from a lack of bogeys rather than making birdies to offset them
So maybe I'm happy to lag putts for a certain par rather than give them a little more and try for the birdie.
It is getting nearer - this last month I've sunk my fair share of putts and played pretty solidly.
Running short of comps now to do any real damage to the handicap but the signs are positive.

Add to that a total lack of the ability to or interest in practice......

Without wishing to start an argument ... ;)

I think you are all wrong
I would almost bet (and I never bet) that for everyone of you it is better course management and better mind management.

Definitely my problem when I have driver in hand. PMA seems non existent for the last couple of months with the big dog.

Short game is just shocking, Miss greens and fail to get up and down so many times, If I had a short game like liverbirdie who gets up and down from everywhere I reckon I could get down to cat 1.

Massive inconsistency.

eg I get two shots on a par 5 and par it then shoot a six on the next 155 yd par three.

my game has improved over the last 6-8 weeks regards my driving. I will be looking at improving this over the winter.

Can play like a 28 handicapper off the tee but scramble very well. For a 5 handicapper I miss a lot of greens outside 150 yards. Up to a 7 iron I'm solid, confidence goes down with 5 and above. But I don't worry too much, my short game is the best part of my game.
I honestly think the only thing holding me back is my physical size, my handicap has dropped as the weight has come off.

A fundamental part of NGT is mental position A. Once you hit a shot, you just need to decide how to put yourself in the ideal mental state to play the next shot. It was something John O'Keefe spent a long time going over at the Grove and it definitely helps especially after a bad one

Consistency. I dont play often enough and dont practice nearly enough.
So over this winter plenty of practice and maybe a couple of lessons.
I have a friend who says anyone should be able to play off 18 easily
Im not there yet after 5 years of going from 27 down to 20 so its not that easy if
you dont have natural abillity :(

Wedges missing greens and long putts missing the distance, combined I basically don't get down in two often enough from promising positions. Thankfully the winter course is short to the point of being driver-wedge on most holes so plenty practise opportunities. Hopefully then my average on par 5 and par 3 will come down as it's a bit high right now.

Short game, played last week and went round in 91, worked out if I had got down in no more than 3 from 50 yards I would have saved 14 shots !!!!!!!

14 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought a v-easy, cue chipping and putting practice throughout the winter months, aiming to be back to single figure by the end on next season.
