Had a shocker on Saturday score wise, just seemed to find trouble on every hole and felt gutted that I let myself down for the weekly game I’d looked forward to all week

I had one of those days where you seem to always be telling yourself off for stupid errors/decisions

So I missed a chance for a cut but realised sitting in bar afterwards that despite the 90 minute solo drive to get there (& the same back obviously) that I was still glad I played and it struck me that over everything I just wanted to be out there even if the score turns out to be poor

So what’s the priority/important to you about your golf. What order would you put these in? (just put your top & bottom 2 if you haven’t time to do all ten)

(in no particular order)
• Getting to play even if scoring poorly
• Playing well
• Scoring well
• Weather
• Course condition
• Pace of play
• Companions/Craic
• Winning
• H/Cap cut
• Post round socialising

The other priorities for me are the craic & course conditions followed by playing well

The things I attach least importance to are winning and the pace of play

You?

Success - winning, qualifying, handicap cut. etc

Striking the ball well - if I lose or score badly it's not so bad. I enjoy it when I strike the ball the way I know that I can.

Striking the ball well
Handicap cut
Scrambling well
Playing partners and enjoying the round
Condition of course
Socialising after
Pace of play
Winning
Weather
Not being dragged around Tesco or a garden centre by the wife

Getting out to play (seriously, I have yet to play a round where I say afterwards: I should have just stayed at home instead)

That said, of course some rounds are more enjoyable than others.

Playing well
Weather
Good company
Seeing others play well
Course condition
Scoring well

if I play well am buzzing, trouble is playing off 21 you always have a bad hole or three and it takes the shine off the rest of the round.

Play well.
score well.
playing partners.
course condition.

This order for me and that's it :-

Hit the ball well
Have fun and relax
Companions
Lovely course

I really do not care about scoring well or handicap up/down:confused:

It is definitely varied on different days!

If I am striking the ball well but scoring poorly I can cope with it due to knowing that the next week luck could change and my score would be -/+ 10 shots difference!

At the moment getting my H/Cap cut is my priority as i've recently got back in to the game and i'm 7 shots higher than I was when I previously played!

On top of this the weather is always a nice factor and getting round with good people in a good time is just an added bonus!

Interesting thread. I played my first round on Saturday since my accident just over two years ago. When a Surgeon tells you that you may end up as a quadriplegic or a paraplegic as a result of your injuries, playing golf takes on a totally different perspective.

I played on Saturday at the Mizuno Forum outing at Formby Hall. It had taken two years to get to that point, but, it was great to be able to play again. Getting out in the company of good friends, a bit of banter and some good shots to reminisce about in the bar, that's what it's all about.

Don't take the game too seriously, play as best you can and be thankful, life is too short for anything else.

very good post DCB, puts things in a different perspective!

Would hate the thought of not being able to pick up a stick again so congrats to you for getting through that!

Playing well
Good company
Good course
Post round
Nice weather

Hitting the ball well
Good company
Good / attractive course
Pace of play
Good weather
Score well
Nice clubhouse
Finish the last hole well

With a h/cap of 22 if I beat myself up every time about my score I would not play again. Clean ball striking brings pleasure and I reckon the more I improve that then the scores will follow, eventually.

The weather, I will play in more conditions than most but I still love a nice warm, not to hit, still, sunny day.

Then it's company, I love playing with others.

The course condition is next, I love any golf but it at least needs to be a decent enough surged to play on. Doesn't matter if it's a cheap pay and play as long as it's looked after.

Reception, facilities up last. Just needs to think of what people want. I'm there often for a while so good coffee, food, practice green is a must. Instant coffee and a shabby net is not prefered!

Great post and I'm so pleased for you!

For me the most important things are:

Striking it well
Putting half decently
Scoring well
And, if the above all happen to some extent, enjoying the game
Good course, in good kick
Good company
