What's going on with all this spam????

Whats the point of it even ?? ok i know ive won the nigerian lotto & i have sent them €200 & my bank details to process it , :D but whats the point in just ordinary spam crap ?

Related to this, does the new forum have an equivalent of the report thread\mark thread as spam button?

I had a look around and could not find anything, the closest I found was to rate a spam thread as terrible, is there a better option than this?

Bottom left hand corner of each reply is a black triangle with ! in it - that's your report button.

Seems to me that this new software opens us up to much more spamming than the last version did.

Partly true. I think it's more to do with the fact that vBulletin is the most popular forum software on the interwebz so it's often targeted more frequently. A bit like Windows OS being targeted more for viruses than say LINUX or Mac.

So it obviously has that downside, but it also has a massive upside in that it's totally customisable (see example here: www.seahawkblue.com - totally customised logos, smileys, post notifications, colours, layout etc)...So I'm sure this will evolve into a better, well rounded forum. It's not going to happen overnight, but we don't pay for the privilege so I'm OK with that.

Regarding the Spam, I'm confident it will die down once settings have been tweaked, but I can assure you that all the Mods do our best to remove it as quickly and efficiently as possible!

The Mizuno Forum has a feature whereby any new posters 1st post doesn't appear for 24 hours. Presumably this is to give the site time to check out any spammers before their dross gets onto the site and also to put off any spammers as when they see this feature they know not to bother.

Is this something could be adopted for our site, or am I being too simplistic?

I'll look into it. TBH I'm finding my feet as much as anyone with this new software so it's a process of trial and error
