Right since before Xmas I've been hitting around 20 unmentionables a round. I know, I know have a lesson well I've had 4 and it's not really helping at all.

Iron play was normally one of the better parts off my game. Now just going on a golf course makes me nervous and just a little unhappy.

Do I just keep plodding along and hope it gets better?
Try a third teaching pro?
Or take a break and just not even think about golf at all?

Thanks a stressed golfer!!

Si is that 4 lessons with 2 different pros?

Yes mate, 3 with a different pro to who I normally use, as he's very busy and difficult to get a lesson quickly with him.

I've got a course lesson and 2 other lessons from a package with my normal pro. But I just can't stand the thought of going anywhere near a golf course at the moment.

From what I saw at Woburn mate, when it's good it's good so it's not that you can't play. It can't be the fault fixing method because you have seen different people. Have a break mate. Not for long. You beating yourself and that not good for you. Have you got a pitch and putt local. No pressure. Nobody watching. Go for a laugh with a mate. That could just take the pressure off.

I feel your pain buddy as I know how much you love your golf.

Forget the pro and watch some you-tube videos get yourself down a field away from prying eyes and work it out yourself, you might actually enjoy the challenge.

Shanks often come from poor stance. Typically, a player has too much weight on their heels at address. The momentum of the swing sees the player move onto the balls of your feet, moving the swing plane further forward = shank.

An old remedy, obviously from an old man, is to get onto the practice ground and try the following. Place a ball under each heel to promote the feel of being on the balls of your feet.

I would have thought that any decent teaching pro would be able to spare the time, willingly, to help you out. Surely, his or her's first very job would be to sort out how your club face arrives at impact.

When I suffered with this, it was because of my tendency to favour a weak grip, which in turn caused me to swing way OTT. I feel your pain, and I know that it can be sorted out with some professional guidance and a will to work hard at the remedy.

Just keep at it but try and remove any pressure such as scores or trying to get down in par etc.
I've shared my problems in another thread as i struggled with irons 5-7, so i had hybrid replacements built and thats was the best thing i have done so there are always an answer, you just need to find the right one for you.

If you dont like going out on the course, maybe try a par 3 course if there is one local to you. The shorter holes would mean beomg able to use your short irons more so should be a little more forgiving.

Try adjusting your attitude - I mean this in a good way I'm not criticising anything.

If if I go out and my attitude is "whatever happens happens" I seem to play better. Just relax and enjoy it, concentrate on your setup with each shot and don't keep score.

Has this just happened after you'd seen an improvement?

There's just to many moving parts to a swing to know for sure, any time it's happened to me it has been because a change has impacted something fairly basic - initially it feels like the change is working but it has tinkered with something else which then magnifies just as I'm thinking this change is excellent!

Don't be a soppy git Simon - there's a reason that you s***k, film your swing at the range and see what's causing it, correct that and come out the other side

Good luck
