In my bored state at work, I came across this peach of a thread that, due to the smaller numbers on the forums back in the day didn't get the replies that the question fully justified!!

Some familiar names on there, I wonder what they're replies would be now??

Madandra - did you shoot a 74?
Marko - did you shoot under par?
GB72 - what are you hitting these days?
John - par round yet?
Homer - I know you're shooting better than what you posted there!

Plenty others on the thread, have a look and see if you have exceeded expectations.

Me? I know I can shoot a 78 or 79 round my local track or another very soon, Its silly things like losing 2 balls OOB on the 1st tee yesterday that is stopping me. I hit 8 fairways and 9 GIR yesterday, 2 or 3 train wreck holes are stopping me....one day soon!

Nice one Keef - when all else fails, rehash someone else's ideas....are you politics? ;)

Seriously though...you saw my post about breaking 80 on Sunday. I reckon I could have had a level par 71 - i hit 3 german tanks on the front and missed 3 silly putts from within 3 feet. Would have meant 71 blows, level par and wiping the smile off of Jose Dominguez-Fandago's moustachioed visage! I really am not bitter.

As for my home track, The Ridge, I have reckon I could do it in level Par. That would include a birdie on two of the par 5's (5th & 14th) and bogey's on the 6th and 10th. Par for the rest of em! Having said that, I have yet to break 80 round there....argggh!

Playing some of the best golf I ever have just of late. I am super confident and feel like I know where the thing is going...so if it is going to happen, it will be soon!

Well, at my own course, Ive done a 74(+6) earlier this year, which is about my best that I can recall ever doing, but put a Medal Card in my hand ........

At other courses......Best of 74 (+2) at Greetham Valley Hill Course, which was an absolute delight, one of those days where you just know where its going, and read/hole everything.

Its all in the head.

My best is 73 (+2) and had a lost ball and 3 3 putts on my course which always plays above the standard scratch . Par 71 CSS 72 :)

Is this thinking along the lines of an eclectic score? In which case on my clubs two courses I am capable of 5 under, and two under par respectively.

In reality however I am never going to acheieve this though, and think that on a good round where things were going well and I avoided any silly errors such as lost ball oob etc, then I would be about 4/5 over par. At the moment I believe that is what my game / ability is capable of.

My course is a par 68, I've managed to par 14 of the 18, and regularly bogey most of the holes(not many double bogey's these days, but obviously get the odd lost ball or OOB). So, technically if I strung all my best holes together, I'm caple of shooting a 72.

Realistically, I'm aiming to beat 80 this year.

I normally play 12 holes in the evenings, and on average I'm getting round them 11 over.

Yay a dreamers thread!
Ive shot a couple of 68s before on a par 68 course, on my own home course my best is around 72 par 71. Ive birdied or eagled every hole on our course since joining 3 years ago (ecclectic round stands at 23 under with 5 eagles on different holes). Last year I started birdie eagle eagle birdie to be 6 under only to finish the round 6 over, so it is possible to get away with a good start, its maintaining the bugger.
I reckon a 68 or 69 should be on the cards in I can keep the driving and irons improving.
Ive put in a 9 hole round of -5 (pity it wasnt a 18 hole competition!)

I have shot a 64 par is 68. I've done the front 9 in 30 shots. I would say if I had a day where everything clicked I could shoot a 62........will that ever happen I doubt it very much.

A bit off topic but I played a course called Silloth on Solway about a year ago. The par there is 72 and an amatuer playing off +2 shot the magical 59! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the card hanging on the wall. He had 13 birdies and 5 pars.

Although I've never shot better than 13 over at my piddlingly easy local course, I've birdied all but one of the holes in my time, so I'm *capable* of 16 under!

Was hitting nicely off the tees yesterday, but my short game was letting me down. Sometimes it's the other way round. I strongly believe that if I can get both working together I'll shoot only 3 or 4 over.

Have shot 69 on a par 68 and also 27 on a 9 hole par 3 course. Not getting close on my current course (par 72).

There is a sub par round in me somewhere! Need to get rid of that 1 silly hole in a round. I was on course to shoot 65 gross but up popped a triple and single on the last 2 holes, where did they come from!!!!!!

A bit of topic saw Rory Mcilroys card hang on the wall at Royal Portrush 61 scratch par was 72 think it was +4 he played of at the time the mind boggles because that is one tough course (Dunluce) same at Ballyliffin 67 scratch par 71
playing of +4 another tough track.

Best ever was a 73 on par 71.

Best on my track 76.
I have birdied every hole on the course and eagled 3....... if only i could put "Some" of those together

It seems that 99% of these replies are fairly realistic (I'll let you decide the act of fiction/delusion) and I think its good to see. Setting realistic targets has got to be a help and aspiration in getting the handicap down but how many on here have been going along like a train and had the sudden dawning that a personal best is imminent to only fall away like a ragged old three legged dog.

Im playing the best golf i have played since i started at the min. Shot a 78 on monday in practice and the my level best score of 75 today in a special man/woman pairing comp. Means i'm off singles!

That will be hard to beat but i think i could shoot a level score round my home course. if i played really well.

but how many on here have been going along like a train and had the sudden dawning that a personal best is imminent to only fall away like a ragged old three legged dog.

That would be me, near enough every time i've played for the last 2 months which is why i've stopped counting up between holes and/or after the front 9 now.

I now wait til the very end to reveal my torture :D
