What piece of golfing gear has changed your game?

Measurement devices - Garmin / Nikon laser and Game Golf

All have gave me a greater understanding of my game.

Knowing my distances is invaluable.

Having GG data allows me to lean on my strengths and work on my weak pointys

What putting mat did you get?

It's pretty cool because of the four different green speeds you can simulate on it (the slowest is stimp 8.5 and the fastest 12). I wasn't too happy with the silicon cup that came with it at first, but after using it for a while I had to admit that it does simulate a real golf hole quite nicely (minus the satisfying sound of a dropped ball, that is). When you brush the fibers against the grain, you can see the path your putt took quite nicely (which is a feature they always stress when advertizing this mat), but I did not find this all that relevant ... I mean, I can see what the ball is doing anyway. But it is a good sturdy mat that lies flat on the floor without any folds or wrinkles or anything. I even hit chip shots or pitches using foam balls on it sometimes.

But to be honest, I think any putting mat would have changed my game in nearly the same way. Or even a piece of carpet. It was more the opportunity to hit 100 putts a day every day that did it. I hit short putts and slightly longer putts (up to 10 feet), I hit putts with my eyes closed, one handed putts, I put lever-arch files under the mat to generate break, I kept statistics on my progress ... I went a bit putt-crazy. That's what changed my game. not the make and model of the mat.

I am tall, but slim, so as a junior, I was too tall for juniors clubs, and not strong enough for mens clubs.

I bought a ladies set!:)

They were perfect for me when starting out on a course properly. Prior to that I had cut down irons from the local range. They were Graphite shafts, so light enough for me, and I had a slow swing speed so the flex was fine.

When I did upgrade to mens irons, opting for graphite shafts instead of steel like the rest of my pals was massively beneficial. A set of Yonex Nanospeeds, where the 4 and 5 iron is actually a 4H and 5H. Great tools!

I bought 18 2ft holes and fitted them on the greens at my club. The committee deemed it vandalism, but boy did it help my scores. Managed to break 100. On the front nine.

Sealskins Socks, absolutely the best thing ever, warm and bone dry feet every time, been an absolute revolution this winter.
