Thought this would be interesting as as you know I am a Cobra man. I know there are a couple of ping addicts on the forum too.

I use cobra because their products have worked well for me. It started when I got a set of 2300 irons. I was so impressed with them that this led to me trying the F-Speed driver which I loved, followed by LD Fairways wich again were a joy to hit. Of course when it came to new irons I tried many brands but the Cobra FP's were the ones for me. I'm sure it was partly psychological as I had so much confidence in Cobra products at this point. I chose the baffler as it was so easy to hit.

I know some people are so brand obsessed (usually ping) that they will not even consider another brand in their bag.

For what it is worth I wouldn't consider a Cobra putter as I love my 2-ball and I don't think that Cobra make a wedge that comes close to my Mizuno.

I chose my cobra Driver becasue when i tried the demo club i hit it dead strait and hit the back fence of the driving range, despite whatever anyone says i love the noise it makes too,
i chose my scotty putty because i liked the weight of it and the feel on the club face, although i have changed putting stance/style so might go looking for another one! probably a YEs . Bettinardi or maybe another scotty. But we'll see. i wont limit my options for name sake.

I chose my irons becasue they got good ratings in magazines and they were an improvers/intermediate set.

Like MWJ I have had a soft spot for Cobra for a few years ... until I screwed up and bought Forged CB's 8 weeks ago and felt like I had lost the little talent I had to swing the clubs. Got shot of them the other day for Cleveland CG4 tour and love them, so NO ... I no longer stick to one brand. I aint good enough.

Went for Ping irons and driver due to the custom fitting and customer service. I also like the look of Ping when I address the ball.

I have a Nike SQ four wood which I may punt, not totally convinced by it.

Currently use a 48 inch 2 ball long putter which has great feel and gives awesome feedback as well as being easy to line up. Revolutionised my game!!

Currently debating whether to buy another 7 wood and bin the hybrid(s). Looking back I think I prefered the 7 wood and knew how it was going to react better than the hybrids.

Also in the market for two new wedges. Swaying towards Nike SV or Sonartec.

I've never bought a Callaway or Taylor Made wood (in regular) that I haven't got on with. Tried all kinds of other stuff, with mixed results. I tried a Macgregor NVG2, which was tasty (but my FT-3 is really great a/t/m).
I got into Callaway in the early days, don't quite know why I've not picked up a set of irons??? Guess I've never had any worries (with irons) about whether it was my clubs or me!

I found Orka golf through depseration. Never found a driver I could hit and was about to give up and buy a 3 wood. The club fitter sorted me out with a driver that I now hit pretty well. Following that, thought I would give the hybrid a try and that also seemed to suit my game. Had a chance to try a set of the Kii irons and they gave more consistancy and feel than my di7s. Only non Orka clubs left in my bag are my faithfull Nike SQ 5 wood, Tour SV wedge and Ping UGLE putter.

My wife had a similar experience, was learning but not really improving with her RAM clubs. Tried an MD Eql driver and it worked like a dream. Swapped the rest of her clubs for a set of MD Blackhawks and has been coming on in leaps and bounds ever since.

I am starting to agree that some makes are just 'right' for certain people.

every club in my bag is a Nicklaus.
The first decent set(my opinion) i got, I stopped playing for a few years and did not see my self getting back into golf so sold them.
Got the bug after back problems got fixed so bought more Nicklaus irons then driver putter and rescue.(second hand from ebay for buttons)

Having said that when i have the funds to get a new set i will go to a pro and get the best clubs suited my swing no matter the make.

I know some clubs look great but i also fish and realise most lures catch more fishermen than fish. So looks are low on the list of priorities for me.

It is easier to say what isn't my brand. Cobra (drivers don't suit me, rest of the range holds no interest), Ping (my dad plays Ping), Callaway (all the gear, no idea always has Cally), Nike (love the clothes, clubs are terrible to look at except Tigers blades and forged cg1s), MD + Orka + Benross etc (just a snob really).

What am I left with:

Titleist - can't go wrong with this stuff.
MacGregor - my blades are objects of beauty.
Taylormade - Love their drivers and rescues, but only carry the rescue at the mo. Get a bit annoyed they release three (minimum) drivers per year. Always feel what ever you buy is already out of date.

First set of Irons were a set of Wilson Deep Red and I loved them but the heads looked like I was hitting the ball with a shovel, so I upgraded to the Di7 Irons.
All my other Wilson Staff kit has just seemed to work for me, I tried to get custom fitted for it but im bog standard off the self.
And my putter was a spur of the moment in the golf shop, it just felt the best for me, and the shop got the correct shaft length for me.

I dont buy a specific brand (as you can tell from whats in my bag), i always go into the shop after researching a few clubs i like the look of on the internet. After hitting balls with a selection i make my decision - to buy or not to buy. I do love my Mizuno MX-17s and would definiately try further sets of Mizunos when looking to next upgrade.

I've not got a preference for clubs, I've been round all the big name brands.

I do like Srixon golf balls though, have used the AD333 for a while, currently enjoying their Trispeed ball!

I chose Di7s after reading equipment reveiws and then trying a few types at a local range/shop with the same Pros who had previously sold me a Wilson Dd6 -12.5 deg driver which proved to be good for me. Price was also a consideration.

I was probably swayed by the write ups more than anything- but I did hit balls straighter and further with the Di7s.

Previous clubs were my freinds dads spares- Infiniti (American I've been told?) and I still use the 3 wood from these. Putter came with these it's a Dunlop and looks very old but seems to work for me.

Callaway (all the gear, no idea always has Cally), -

Ooohh that's a bit harsh - I admit a lot of sad no-hopers have their bags full of the stuff, but some players use their stuff to great success. I would never have got so enthusiastic about wanting to get better without the assistance of some nice Callaway woods.

On balance, there are more good Callaway players than rubbish ones at my club. Interestingly, quite a few of the single figure players use Callaway woods but other irons.....could be something to do with the H T effect on the game improvement irons????

Bought the Benross V12+ Driver, found it very easy to hit and not as pricey as most of the leading brands.

Sold a set of Ping eye 2 irons (2-SW) which pretty much paid for the rest of my set. (4 wood, recovery, irons 3-LW and putter)

At the moment I have 2 x 3 woods, a 64* copper lob wedge and a putter that are surplus to requirements.

I have absolutely no brand loyalty, if they want it they can pay me for it! I'll get what works for me - in everything.
I still have most of my initial Ben Sayers MX-7 package but I'm slowly working through it as the (perceived) need arises. The only clubs not part of the package at the mo are:

TalyorMade r7 driver and 5-iron - because I can hit them
Ben Sayers M1 2-hybrid - wanted something to hit under the wind, cheap to try
Bayhill 4-hybrid - already had it

Next up putter - currently being seduced by Ping B60
irons - hit these reasonably well and they may be OK but planning to get my pro to run a fit on my current irons, then if they ain't broke . . . otherwise maybe MX-19, maybe Orka

When I came back to golf I immediately went and got fitted at AG for a set of Mizuno mx-25. Used to have a set of Comp-EZ (i think) and loved them.

Was up at St Andrews on the Trackman system and was playing with the irons up there. Turned out I was poorly fitted for the mizuno's by quite a degree. Norrie put an old Ping 6-iron, inch & half, longer in my hands and every one was out of the middle with a gentle draw. That changed my mind there and then that I was getting a set of Ping Irons.
And since getting the G10's nothing has happened to change my mind.

Current bag is;

Callaway FT-I Driver
Ping G10 3 Wood
Cobra DWS Baffler 20 degree
Ping G10 4-SW
Titleist Vokey 60 degree
Odyssey Marxman Putter

In February I will be changing the Driver to either the G10 / L4V or Hyper-X depending on which I get on best with.

A guy I used to play with took up golf, and bought Callaway everything, bag, woods, driver, irons, umbrella, towel, hat, polo, fleece, balls etc, before even swinging a club.

He got down to 18 eventually (years), and then decided as an 18 h/capper he should have 'proper golfers' clubs. He bought a set of Hogan Apex blades, and for months afterwards (til he sold them) shanked every one of them.

This is my idea of Cally man....

I chose the Ping driver for the simple reason that when I went to the demo day almost all of my drive's went where I wanted them to.

I have improved my fairways hit stats since I bought it, now up at 71%.

I have Nike irons I bought these over the Taylormade RAC set as they felt good at the time and had a lower trajectory as I hit the ball fairly high with all my clubs.

But alas my GIR's are terrible, too bad to print so I am looking to change them this year, thinking about Callaway X20's, I tried them at the range and liked the feel with them does anyone have them and would you recommend them?

Putters I have a few but favorite is my John Letters Trilogy.
