Favourites:

10th at Sunningdale Old.
...

This is the one that springs to mind for me - along with Wentworth East 2nd and 9th at Thorndon Park (and maybe even 18th at Swinley). You might notice a pattern!

1st at Muirfield - for what it signifies (and I prefer the 4th Doon, but only just).

This is, of course, a wonderfully impossible question to answer and some good suggestions so far.

I also considered the Postage Stamp and Troon and Prieshach at Hopeman.

With apologies about the music....

I'm surprised at the suggestion of the 14th at Trump. Certainly visually pleasing from the tee (especially the very back tees) with the huge duned amphitheatre but I found it a very ordinary hole - massive fairway so a very straightforward tee shot and very little to concern you around the green.

Just to throw a couple of different ones into the mix, I loved the 12th at Southerness. A simple dogleg but with good bunkering at the corner and the green poised on the edge of the Solway firth.

And the 5th at Stranraer, mainly for a tee shot that certainly focusses your attention, especially in a left to right cross wind!

This is a superb hole.

18th at Lytham. Just sits there majestically offering all it's beauty and danger just daring you to wallop one. Last played it when a storm had blown through and the sun came out to light it up in the late evening. Will never forget it.

One of my favourites too, helped by the fact that it was where I won the FedEx Challenge Trophy a few years ago.

Understand that and agree with the assessment of the hole but Trump is the best course I've ever played and I just remember walking on to the tee 14 and thinking it was stunning. Maybe it was the light, maybe it's because I ripped a drive right up the middle and made birdie, maybe it's because it wasn't too difficult ;)

Whatever the reason, it's a hole that sticks in my mind as striking me as soon as I saw it.

It certainly sticks in the mind - visually stunning.

Harder off the very back tees, perhaps, well, certainly... as I'd be struggling to reach the fairway - would need to aim for the path lol!

See also the dogleg right par 5 early on Sunningdale New (6th?) if they ever rip out all the pointless trees on the inside of the hole to get back to the original wide open look, absolutely gorgeous view that could so easily be so much better.

O
ne of my all-time favourites - just like 5 and 10 - all open now as my assistant Gary ably demonstrates. Probably my favourite course

Managed to narrow my choice down to three.

The first hole at Machrihanish. Just a stunning tee shot.
The eighteenth on the Kings Course at Gleneagles.
And the eighteenth at Turnberry Ailsa course. Have been fortunate to play down this hole a couple of times on a summers night with the sun out, little wind, playing towards the hotel and hearing the piper play up at the hotel.

you write posts like this and have the gall to moan about people posting a thread about star wars .
HYPOCRITE.

Maybe you need to lighten up and get a sense of humour.

My post about Star Wars Day - posted at 06-24 this morning.
Your thread about Star Wars Day - started at 09-11 this morning.

So I'm not sure how my post could be considered complaining about someone posting a thread about Star Wars Day unless I'm a hypocrite with the ability to predict the future. Anyone want this weekend's lottery numbers? :)

EDIT - And it wasn't a moan, it was a random irritation.

PNW - Wonderful pictures. As someone who has not been to or seen Sunningdale they make me feel that I badly want to play it. Best with quite a few balls in the bag though as I suspect that heather may swallow a few.

(just googled it. Did you play the new or the old course?)
