What is a climate emergency

What happened about the CFC emmissions?
Its illegal to release CFC gases, such as the old R12 used in domestic fridges years ago. (the penalty is 5 yrs and £20k fine)
That was replaced by HCFC (R134) but now most domestic fridges use an iso-butane gas R600a.
Cars use R134, so keep using it every now and then all through the year as the molecules are much smaller than R12, and thus a thinner oil is needed. If you dont run your car air con regularly, the seals can dry out and the the system leaks its refridgerant.

I still have a 12Kg bottle of R134a and also the old R12 replacement Isceon 49. Stopped doing system repairs years ago.

It does make you think though, that when I first started replacing compressors on R12 systems all those years ago we just opened the system and let the gas go. That's how we were trained. It would be a hanging offence nowadays!

So did I. I did used to enjoy a nice compressor change, using the scorpion burner head to silver solder and braze it in, followed by 20/30 mins on the vac pump.
When I had air con issues with a previous car, I couldn't believe they didn't know how to read a system with a pair of gauges.

I still have my scorpion kit as well, along with the oxygen cylinder and refill hose... wonder if it's worth anything?

I don't understand why it is that we here on our tiny island seem to get so worked up about such things. Bluddy hell, (yup the China thing) LOTS of other countries do far more polluting than we EVER will. The plastic in the seas in some countries did NOT come from here. Just what are they doing about it all. NOTHING! Yet we give them BILLIONS not MILLIONS to help them and they just hiss it away. When those MASSIVE countries come to the table and agree to sort this problem, then why should we bother? Please don't give me the conscience thing either.
Thing is I said the other week Trump walked away from the Paris agreement because of China/ India etc etc. Nothing will happen until financial pressure is put onto China. Starting on Huwawaii or what ever it is Called would be a start.

There was a bill board on the M1, just short of Staples Corner, which was a plea to not throw plastic rubbish into the ocean.
I have long arms, but really? Money better spent elsewhere I think.

It certainly doesn't help when the orange idiot over the pond is clearly in denial that the problem exists!
It certainly doesn't help when most of us are in denial of the root cause which is overpopulation. The rest are just symptoms.

all this crap about the uk going green is cow dung ,in the great realm of the worlds pollution a test was done [theoretical] to take away the uk from the pollution of the world ,basically it was put a huge dome over us and take us out of the equation ,it turns out that we as a country produce less than 2% of the worlds pollution ,so whatever e as a country do it aint bloody worth it in the long run . then add in the fact that there are more than twenty active volcanoes going ff at the moment ,each one producing more pollution in a day than we as a country produce in a year .
its all on the web thingy if you care to look . and not get hung up on the trash that the government and media keep spouting about it.
all the time chine russia india america brazil and many more countries keep up the same rate of pollution there is more chance of the devil putting on a set of skis.

Exactly , it everybody else's fault. Let's sit back and do nothing.

Heard on the radio yesterday about long term switching the uk to electric boilers (had never heard of them before) has anyone every looked into them? They look pricy to run (£500 more a year almost) but lower to maintain

Getting a new boiler in the summer when we get loft done to sort us for 15-20 years wonder if electric was worth considering?

Or wait until this boiler is coming to end life and get kitchen done all electric (ie with induction hobs and get rid the gas full stop)
