A pro runs out of balls.....

Just watchin the golf on sky and a couple of years ago a pro run out of balls on the 18th (commentator said he had to call it quits!!!!)

What would his score for the round be???

what if you went into the bushes and found a ball? is that someone else's? I think the club own balls lost on the course don't they?

There person who loses it still owns it otherwise next time you loose your car its mine

;) ;) ;)

Pro events typically, and certainly on tour, use the 'one ball condition', which means they must play the same make and model of ball throughout.

As to borrowing from other players, Decision 5-1/5 says that even when the 'one ball condition' is in operation a player can scrounge one from another player and continue as long as it is the same make and model as what he has been using

He can borrow a ball providing it is the same exact make and does not delay play in doing the swap. Tricky when each Tour pro has an individualised version of the gold ball. I was told by a pro about one event where the 12 Nike players were using 10 different variations of the Nike One golf ball between them.

Tiger Woods almost got into trouble one year at Pebble when unbeknown to him he stood on the 18th tee, with the Pacific Ocean on the left, with one ball left.

As JezzE has clarified you can indeed borrow a ball.

In addition the FAQs to Rule 5-1 on the R&A website confirm that

"the only type of equipment the Rules limit the borrowing of is clubs"

Which is sensible given that the definition of "equipment" is

"anything used, worn or carried by the player or anything carried for the player by his partner or either of their caddies, except any ball he has played at the hole being played and any small object, such as a coin or a tee, when used to mark the position of a ball or the extent of an area in which a ball is to be dropped. Equipment includes a golf cart, whether or not motorised."

Otherwise you'd be disqualified for borrowing an umbrella, cap, pencil, etc. :(

Assuming he almost ran out due to wanting a new one every so often and not losing half a dozen, surely the caddie would keep some used ones if he knew they were getting low :D

There was talk about this on one of the European tour events recently on Sky. I recall they said that once it is taken out of play, you cannot use it again in pro comps.

Not sure of the exact ruling about borrowing others from players but somethimes they go througha few at a time.

I know Henrik Stenson lost at least 3 on the 11th in Munich last week - 2 into the same pond then threw his third in in disgust after carding a 9. Imagine if you did that and then found you were out of balls :o :o
