I have never been to a club AGM but before I decide to stay or go I want to hear the plans for the year and if possible have my say.

So, how do they work. Will I get to raise my points bearing in mind that I have not been prepared enough to submit any questions in advance. Is it common to take opinions from the floor or will I just get to hear the proposals for the year and vote.

ours you have to put your issues that have to be voted on 3 weeks before. but ours have time for anyone to have their say about things (but not voted on) only 50 of us, yours bigslice vice-captain

It's a business meeting. The full details of how you can raise items for consideration should be detailed in your constitution. Very unlikely that any major issues can be raised as AOCB on the night. The club should have issued your agenda, minutes and accounts prior to the meeting and really all you are doing is rubber stamping what the committee have asked for at the AGM.

how many years have you been a member?

4 years. I know I should have probably shown more of an interest in how the club runs by now but I have not had any issues to raise until now.

uve answered my next question, my family were into politics (me i couldnt give a castlemaine 4x) but it must have rubbed off. im interested in the running of our club within a muni course. there are only 50 of us. the committee dont get paid or do it for financial gain. but we care about the club. no harm going to the meeting voice your concerns but if its a sinking ship then leave. but your next club be involved or at least attend the AGM

Very fair point. Spent too long tutting about things at the club and doing nothing. I have no issues with the committee and respect what they do but they represent the interests of a certain group of members so I want to express another view. The club is by no means a sinking ship but, in my opinion it does need to change and become more 'user friendly' if it is to thrive as the days of full memberships and waiting lists are long gone and I cannot see them coming back for any club in the near future.

The simplest way is to call the club and ask. Many will have slight variants on a theme. We have to put motions and agenda items in writing a minimum of three weeks before hand. The club publishes the figures and paperwork in advance so members have time to dissect them and come up with the questions, proposals. If you want to stand on a committee you have to find someone willing to propose you
