What handicap???

Well I'd love to say mid single figures. My father played off 7 at his best, my uncle 4, my grandad also played off a low number so there's something in the family. There is a very long way to go before I can look to be at that standard. But I am young(ish) so I have got time and my body still on my side. Just have to keep plugging away at it.

At the start of the year I thought I could get to 7, now I'm at 7 I think I can get to 6, when I get to 6 I'll think I can get to 5, when I get to 5 I'll definately be able to get to 6 :D

I think when i get a handicap (target - spring next year) i'll be around the 19/20 but may creep toward 22. My aim from there would be to be lower than 20 or 18 for the year.

Baby steps for this one - think its the only way where golf is concerned.

I got partnered up with a guy at the Belfry 2 weeks ago that had been playing for 1 year and was playing off 10.....if you've got talent then anything is possible if you're willing to work.

Similar to Hawkeye, I started the year thinking I could get to 8 this season. Now I'm there, I reckon I can get to 6 before the end of the year. Ultimately the goal is Cat 1 but with another baby on the way in October, I might just have to put those aims on hold for a wee while.

No idea but lower than what I am now :D

Me and practice don't get on so that might stop me at some point. I would rather just go out and play golf

i always thought i could get to single figures , i play off 14 with no practice and only playing once a week

but ive kind of reached my level now could i go lower possibly but i need to practice and its not really something i can afford ast the moment

In all likelyhood I've been there.
Got to 4.8 and although I hung around that level for a while, the slow creep back up is in full flow.
I'm cool with it.
If I never get back to 5 or less then at least I can say that I got there.
Who knows, that form may return although it's been well over a year since my last cut and the handicap hasn't been beaten this year, even in a bounce game.
I'll keep plodding on and take what the game throws my way..
Everyone will reach a point, sooner or later, where they will just not be able to get better. I think its important to realise this and, although you should never stop trying, accept that it will happen.
Then you can just play for fun....

Cheap practice balls off eBay & go to the local playing field,it doesn't av to be expensive. Hate to think how much some people spend on lessons, yet h/c doesn't seem to come down.

At the start of the year I thought I could get to 7, now I'm at 7 I think I can get to 6, when I get to 6 I'll think I can get to 5, when I get to 5 I'll definitely be able to get to 6 :D

Word for word this.

I can see me managing to come down a bit further to around a 5 but unless I start practicing a lot more I think I'll then be destined to kick around the 5/6 boundary for eternity.

Potentially I'm capable of getting down to about 2 or 3 but just can't string a round together right now, it's all birdies and double bogeys. As per the other thread, 15 consecutive .1's is all I can take, one 36 hole comp left this year so expect that run to extend to 17 :(

I started playing two years ago with a handicap of 22. i got it down to 20 but due to not getting to play much last year it has went up and i'm now off 22.5.

I've been playing well recently and have only went up 0.1 this year. A few weeks ago i had a great round hitting 43 points but not in competition. but the last two saturday coompetitions i've played i've ended up with 34 and 35 points with near enough identical rounds. 12 and 13 points on the front 9 and then 22 points on the back 9 in both rounds. the strange thing is our front 9 is generally easier than the back. I think i maybe need to get up at the crack of dawn and go get 9 holes in before playing the comp!

I'll be gutted if i don't get to at least 20 by the end this year and would be really happy if i can get down to 18.

At the moment I think I can get to 5.

I also think that if my hc was 4 I could stay there, but not sure if I can get there in the first place.

But I doubt somewhat that it was the first time he'd swang a club when he started. I'm sure that he was previously a good player before ditching his clubs for whatever reason...?

Reading through the forum, I still think baby steps for the majority of new starters is the best 'plan' whilst acknowledging there will be some exceptions.
