What does this tell you, (other than I'm crap)....

It tells me that hitting fairways and greens isn't always required to produce a score - something I am well aware of Mate!

1st par 4. Greenside bunker for two, managed to get out and three putt. 1 point
2nd par 3. Missed the green, chipped on, two putted. 2 points.
3rd Par 4. Short in two, chipped to 6". Gimme for 3 points.
4th Par 3. Missed the green, chipped on, two putts for 1 point.
5th Par 5. Missed the green with my 3rd, chipped on, gimme putt for 3 points.
6th Par 4. Missed the green, chipped on, canned the putt for 3 points.
7th Par 3. Hit the green, canned putt for birdie. 3 points.
8th Par 4. Hit the green in two, canned the putt for 4 points.
9th Par 4. Blasted drive OOB. Got on for 5, two putt blob.
Cushty.
Ooops. Sound like a blog.

If you missed a few of those greens by a few feet only, doesn't say much, and if you scored 20 points regardless, you are not crap. But if you hit the middle of every green, what would you have scored?

Swop smiffy for Tashyboy and now we're bragging about an excellent front nine.

played nine hole comp today. Shot 18 points and won me division, so why am I bogged off about losing two balls which cost me four shots when ave got "we are the champions " blasting away on me queen vinyl album.

why do I focus on the negative and not the fact ave played 7 holes quite well and am walking away with the brass.

It tells me what a silly game we play........ either that or I need to improve my scoring.... and chipping. My 9 from a couple of days ago:

2.jpg

I post it because after 8 holes we were lying level I think, handicaps disregarded.

The fairways I missed were in the semi and the only greens I missed were by under a yard. The chip on the 6th where I dropped a shot was across a huge slope (10 foot drop maybe) in a 2 tier green but not bad at about 5 feet from the hole .......but lipped out (I blame the winter conditions of the green). The bunker shot on the 8th could've been better at about 7 feet but not bad for me ...... but missed the putt by an inch or so.

It's not how, it's how many. After 8 holes, you seemed to have taken a more scenic route, but the score is what's important :)

This is why I'm not a great believer in stats.

I think that most people who look at stats do understand what their reading though, after all, if it's my round of golf and the stats say I've only hit 3 greens in regulation, andI know that I was around the fringe on 8 other occasions then I look at the GIR stats with that in mind.

I wasn't aware you could keep stats for greens nearly hit, or fairways only just missed.

The only stat the really matters is your score on each hole Smiffy
