What does "smart casual" mean?

Totally agree the jeremy Clarkson look has never looked good. If I am wearing a jacket then i will wear trousers

Chinos, deck shoes and loafers? Did you read back what you wrote??????????

To be honest, I have no idea why I wrote loafers, I haven't owned a pair since about 82 :D

But I stand by deck shoes, they are very comfy, anyway, pick on the guy that said cardigan ;)

You really meant a pair of slip on dress shoes, with tassles, didn't you. Maybe in cream......:D

Thinking back I reckon there is 6 levels of dress code.

Relaxed: Jeans, trainers, sportswear, collarless T-shirt, that sort of thing.
Casual: Smart jeans, Shirt, polo shirt, jumper, casual shoes or smart trainers (not footie trainers or similar)
Smart Casual: Trousers, Shirt, shoes.
Smart: As Above but with jacket or tie.
Not sure what to call this: A suit or similar like would be expected at a wedding, christening or similar occasion.
Black Tie: Pretty obvious, Tuxedo or similar.

Cool thing is wearing my kilt works for all of the above. I just tweak what I wear (or do not wear :)) with it.
