I have been given my warnings etc but what we have to realise is the mods are only doing what they think is best for the forum to keep it civil and to ensure things don’t happen that affect the GM name

The rules are there to try and keep the forum sane and doesn’t go down to levels where it’s open warfare - seen that on football forums and it’s not nice

No one is forced to take part on the forum but if you want to take part then follow the guidelines and rules set out and enjoy it - this place is superb and all the good things about are why people stay around.

Well this is a little hornets nest I've stirred up

I mean, the suggestion that some are being treated differently to others is a scandalous slur upon the fine job the mods on here do. :mmm: who'd have thunk it

It is hard to believe how someone can rack up 20k posts and have had numerous bans but still not be permanently banned though :thup:


So what I've learned is, don't be yourself, be someone else other than yourself and you'll be fine. If you're in with the right guys, you'll be fine, but if you act the same as some of the right guys you won't necessarily be treated the same....hahaha...

I give myself a week before I'm permanently banned if my previous two infractions are anything to go by or this post or topic will see me banned before then

Its not quite like that though is it, after the editor reminding everyone about the rules and how strict it will be enforced you only have to look in the football thread to see how this is being abused.

Indeed, there should have been an instant ban for one certain comment made recently.

Phil, I've never met you and have no opinion on you and would only judge someone til after I've met them but you are one of a number of names that has been highlighted to me who has allowed to continue on your merry way despite a number of previous bans yet I'm told I get one more infraction and I'm banned permanently....kinda smacks of a mates club where there is one rule for some and one rule for others don't you think ??

I really don't understand. This is a golf forum provided for its users free of charge. There are rules set out to abide by and if they don't suit your needs then move right along and find somewhere else to frequent. I assume you really like the forum as you keep returning to it despite bans and infractions causing you such angst. So...if it's so good and you want to stay then just abide by the rules and don't step out of line or repeatedly put yourself in the spotlight...

My infractions happened over a two year period when I first arrived and they ran out and when I did get a week ban I didn’t come straight back on complaining which then gives you another infractions and points which give you the thread of a ban. Maybe stop complaining and start posting about golf and you won’t get infractions

We are more tolerant of the OOB section and football threads, but remember we have to make a judgement, some decisions will be popular and some won't.

The bottom line is you can always drop an email to Mike if you feel we've done something wrong. Alternatively, if the forum is as shocking as some make out, you could always find another one.

No one should ever have a reason to have a dig at the mods, like you say, very difficult job and all volunteers.

Take it to MikeH if you have an issue and expect a straight answer back.

The forum is like life, we all have different opinions and not everyone gets on with everyone else, speak to people like you would face to face, if you wouldn’t say it, don’t post it.

This is a golf forum. Nothing more nothing less. Respect it for what it is. It is fun. If we treat it more than that, then we don't have too much going on in our lives. It's sad that a thread of this type is raised and even more sad that we are having a pop at people who voluntarily moderate - not an easy job.

It's not about who's right and who's wrong, it's about *respect* and opinions. We don't always agree, but know when to *let it go* and move on. There are far more important things to concern everyone than mod or people bashing.

Just read a PM saying that one more infraction will see a permanent ban from here

Also been told certain members have been banned loads of times but still seem to be around :mmm:

So quick question, how do some manage to survive on here ??

The same advice I'd give for just about every situation in life, just don't be a dick.

I don’t really reckon you’ve done anything wrong, just mixed it up a bit
Just use the forum for what you need. In my case hooking up for a few games with some fellas that i like. There’s no mileage in having an online spat with someone you’re never gonna meet.
The mods have a tough job, but there are certain things they let go that should be clamped down on.
Constant repetition by the same poster, cut & paste posting to boost post count, casual misogyny and homophobic behaviour is often ignored. All these are more important than someone with strong views on the wind up

I'd agree about the casual stuff, but I suppose a lot of that is down to personal values/beliefs (and this is not a pop at the mods BTW). For example, I may think I see some casual misogyny where others don't. Doesn't mean I am right, just that I have different tolerances to certain things. And that kind of stuff is difficult to put in a 'rule'.

I got a pm saying a certain member has been banned numerous times but is still on here, I get a pm from someone else saying another member has been banned numerous times, yet is still here, I then get a pm saying that the two members I'm referring to play with a mod who is dishing out bans to me like confetti....do you not think that seems not quite cricket ???

So back to my original question, seems some can act like a dick and it's fine, so what Does it take ??

My thought on forum posting is only post what youd be prepared to say to that persons face and you wont go far wrong.

Have you thought that maybe the issue is the people who are sending you messages ? There are a number of people on here that do like to send messages around to stir up trouble.

Maybe you need to ignore what people are sending you in PMs and just enjoy the place

And as I have said the infractions are on a points system and those points run out after a certain period just like a driving license - maybe read that bit and you will under stand why some have had a number of infractions and bans and still here over a long period where as your points are still live and racking up.

If you are going to act like a dick then make sure you play golf with the mods???

Not sure what your end game is here. If you are pointing out that sometimes in life people occasionally get treated slightly differently down to who they know then no %^% sherlock. I am pretty sure that is not news to you. Surely the answer is to not be a dick and give people the chance to ban you. And don't overly worry about the banning or not of some other person you have never met or likely to meet? Surely life is too short?

One thing I would say is that the more people you meet on this great forum of ours, the better it becomes.

I was a stranger 7-8 years ago, went on a local meet and the rest is history. Me, Lincoln quaker and Birchy have organised many meets in the past consisting of long weekends, 5 day full holidays and lots of other stuff. 40/50 and even 60 odd at some of them, and only the odd divvy.

H4H is another place to meet a load of the southern lads, and others from all over these fair isles. H4H is the singular biggest/best way to meet a load of new associates and even friends. The mods may have met some of these people and its only understandable that they may give them a bit more leeway, as they have met the person and found them to be ok.

A bit harder for you up in Scotland, but you have also poo-pooed meeting up with like minded forummers as a bit sad.......which doesn't help, either.

I find the real gob..... on here are the keyboard warriors, who would never meet that person face-to-face and say the same as the worst.
