What defines a "true" links course??

Probably a stupid question but can a links course have a man-made lake on it? Can't remember seeing one..... just wondered if it's "against the rules"?

One of the best links courses I have played.

Another wee sidenote to Links courses....bunkers were not intentional parts of the course, they were originally made by grazing sheep burrowing to get shelter from the winds.

Royal Dornoch Struie (ladies course) has a pond in front of the 2nd and 18th tee's. I thinks its just some way to collect water for the course though!

It's definitely a reservoir, no more no less. There's other places where there's "ponds" on it but don't know when they have water. Either at high tide, or after a lot of rain - but they were dry when we played there.
