What Makes a Great Digital Stroke Counter?

So this is a bit niche, but making one child friendly and able to track multiple scores would be nice. Whilst seasoned players may not want a counter, something like this would be great for younger juniors. With their mind focused on the game, the rules and all the other stuff going on it can be hard for kids playing in comps to keep track of their score plus that of child they are marking a card for, a counter would be great for this. Additionally if it's a relatively cheap little gadget, it can acts a nice reward for a small golfing achievement and also just help keep things fun and interesting to a younger mind.

Interesting thoughts. I know quite some players that use them actually, not just kids, usually people with plus 30 handicap or people with bad memory like me.
It is indeed a matter of focusing on the game and not the counter, hence the value of a simple but high quality stroke counter. Just curieus what features are essential and what people want to pay for it, hence my little survey.
I noticed on Amazon they sell these devices a lot each month - probably because they break so easily ;)

Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but I've never got the point of these stroke counters/clickers - if you're the sort of person who forgets how many shots you've had, who's to say you've not forgotten to click the counter on one or two of your shots??

That can happen. It does happen that I forget to click...with a handheld device that risk is less in my experience and overall, I am very happy to have a stroke counter to help me... and many people seem to need one.

I'm picturing more of a digital scorecard, not necessarily that you'd click every shot. Maybe you could if you wanted

That would indeed also be valuable ... no more paper score cards .. I read somewhere that there are places where this exists.
A score counter that directly enters data in the digital scorecard, would that be interesting ?

The closest I've been to that is with Yorkshire Union B/Ball events where one Pair uses Golf Genius to enter scores as we go & the other uses paper. Reconcile scores then post them as a result. A most efficient system

We are able to input all our scores hole by hole on the IG App. I assume HDID also have the facility.

Crikey... is this a thing? My wife had a "clicker" as she called it when she first started and was taking 9s and 10s. This was soon consigned to the bin.

It would be wonderfully passive aggressive to use a clicker if you were scoring for somebody in a competition, or playing against them in a match, and you just looked at them and pressed the clicker after each of their shots. Especially if they were known for forgetting shots.

Thanks, I searched for Golf Genius and found a webpage to enter scores? Were they entering the strokes through a device with a browser or through other way? and at the end of a hole probably?
thanks

The competitions were set up using GoflGenius & entrants are sent a code that allows the GG App to be used for scoring using a smartphone. Scores for all playing partners are input hole by hole & 'catch-up' should there be Wifi signal problems on the course.
At completion, scores are verified with the card a member has used & then sent in electronically & card boxed.

If I’m playing in a 4BBB, regardless of handicaps or ability, I always know how many shots all four of us have taken on every hole.
