What are your distances per club?

Going by todays round, weather dry, ground ever so slightly damp from a few days rain.

Driver 265-340 (measured) Id say my honest to god average through out the year would be 285 or so as i hit a very high ball with my 9.5 deg mp600 and get very little roll on any course.
3+ wood 250-285
5 wood 220-230
3 iron 210-220
4 iron 195-220
5 iron 185-190
6 iron 175-185
7 iron 160-175
8 iron 150-165
9 iron 140-150

50 deg 120-125
56 deg 100-100

Mine is roughly the same on a normal dry day and allowing for 'normal' roll-out. However lately I can't hit a cow's arse with a shovel, so cut all the figures in half!

I played shhhheeeeiiite last time out, the further I hit it the further into the trees it went
I'm pretty sure it was less than 20 points

When I stand on the tee and it's 174y the first club that comes to mind (under normal conditions) is a 6-iron and I can't help that... it is what it is.

Played Allen Park yesterday........ as nice as it looks, its not for me, the flies and smell of the sewage works certainly puts a little bit of a downer, especially when it was warm and moderately windy yesterday.

With a clean shot each time I would say my distances are roughly as follows. (These are at least the clubs I would take out of the bag for a certain shot in calm conditions ... chances are though that I wouldn't actually *make* the shot!!)

Normally I can narrow it down to two distances ;

If it's straight, it's not far enough.

With my 'power fade extraordinaire' it's too far ( sideways )

Although after my lesson last week, I have now developed another distance for my brand new pull hook ( gotta love them pros ). Blimmin miles over the OOB fence.

The whole of the european tour has 13 players who average 300yds for their drive. The USPGA only have 10.

We have nearly half that number on here who make the same claim. You guys are goood.

The other amusing thing (not pointing the finger at anyone particular) is how many can hit a driver 250, but a 7i only goes 140. Odd that.

I think you are confusing distance with accuracy and consistancy.

I can hit it a long way but how often it's straight and on the fairway is a totally different matter. Last time out I hit a 3-wood 295y but that doesn't mean I do that every time but I know I CAN hit it that far. Put a lake in the way and I'm sure I can come up 10yds short Put me 250y/260y from a flag and the 3-wood is pretty much the club I'm going to be hitting at it.

There are lots of people who can out-hit the pro's but they don't have the consistancy (look at all the long drive guys) also they aren't accurate enough with their approach shots and their putting isn't as good as the pro's. It's the short game and the ability to get up and down from 100y that makes the pro's exceptional.

To be fair, I was thinking along these lines. However remembering back to the days where I had not long been playing golf, I could hit my irons reasonably well but I was atrocious with anything longer. I initially only had a lesson on how to hit my irons and was more relaxed with these leading to a better strike and in my early days about a 140 yard 7 iron. With my driver I used to try and hit it so hard it would travel further right then it would straight, meaning as a result my drives were barely longer than my mid iron approaches!

I believe quite a few people quoting their distances will fit into this bracket.

Yup, distance is only a part of the game, some people think that because the pros hit 300 that amatuers cant. Yes we can but then there is crispness of long irons and accuracy of the shorter ones, this is the difference, then there is putting!
