Are there any another major world sports where the playing area varies so much as it does in golf ?

When you think of football, tennis, darts, snooker etc etc boring.
Running and cycling are 2 but not many others.

I must say that your image reinforces to me that links golf looks so bland. It's tough, it's the origins of the game but a camera will always make it look quite flat and uninspiring

Really? Try coming over and playing some of the courses here. It is a slog winding your way through the dunes on a lot of them.

I would beg to differ. Some of the best views in golf are on links courses.

Here is the 9th tee at Royal County Down.

I would argue football.

Take, as an example, Stafford Rangers football club. Then compare the stadium, facilities, pitch to Old Trafford, the Nou Camp or the Allinaz Arena and it really is a different world.

Plus these sports have a finite number that has been achieved by many, Golf has never acheived that and probably never will, its possible, but extremely unlikely due to the variables.
