It depends on what the original grip weighed. If the new grip is heavier then the original it will affect the swingweight of the club. Every 4g in the grip end will change by 1 swingweight. The heavier the grip the lighter the head will feel and vice Versa.

Theres the science.
I put a new grip on a mizuno putter once and the head definitely felt lighter afterwards.
I didn't hate the new feel but I also didn't love it.
