Wembley Up For Sale

Do you honestly think the National League playoffs with a half filled stadium would still be there.

Why not ? They were there before the FA owned Wembley

And it would be a bit daft to have he debt just to ensure some have a “day out”

Not bothered who owns it and it might be a blessing in disguise if it gets the semi's to neutral grounds where they should be and a trip to Wembley and maybe a trip to London being the ultimate prize for the finalists.

Why ? The cup finals will still be there - the FA didn’t own Wembley until 2000 and there were no issues with people “being denied a day out “ - Wembley will still host most of the major matches the only ones I expect will be the FA Cup semi finals which will be back to be played at neutral grounds and rightly so and the England team will visit more grounds around the country and actually get more of a connection with more than just people in London and the south

Well, I am not so confident the teams/players for the Vase or Trophy competitions would get a day out there...

There's way more to footie than the top tiers to be considered...
Or, bloomin' well should be...

And, let's not forget the women's game...

Why won’t those finals still be at Wembley just like they were Pre 2000 ?

Hopefully the FA will ensure there continuance should they sell off their biggest asset...
However so you trust them to do so?
Me, I am not confident they would or new owner wishing to host events potentially not profitable...

They could sell it, take the matches around the country to the real fans, half the price of entry to England games and half the price of replica shirts. ;)

An interview I heard today said that the FA were planning to put the money into plastic pitches for youngsters and grass roots teams. The person said that they cost £250,000 each and the problem is that they need replacing after 10 years and there will be no money left to do the replacements so what happens then?

The FA has demonstrated they couldn't run the proverbial p'up in a brewery. Only 10years since they paid circa £1bn for the build and now selling at a loss - received somewhere around £60m from public bodies - it should be returned.

No doubt the FA 'committee' will feel the need to pay themselves significant bonuses for stress of managing such a complex 'deal'.

Clearly a vested interest as the Fulham owner is behind this. I can see what he wants to do and get it but only if he keeps his promises regarding the cup final being there and I don't think its a bad thing if England do go on the road again. My only concern would be the promise that the money will be invested at grass root level and that the FA deliver on that and it reaches the very bottom and the junior teams playing in parks.

It will beneficial for the FA and the owner to keep all the top fixtures there

If as expected the sale goes through then it’s more than likely going to be used for the Jags - the NFL season goes from Sep to about Jan so then Wembley will need something to bring the funds in over the summer - Cups finals and Plays Offs etc will fill that gap up until Sep

The big problems will possibly for Spurs and Chelsea - Spurs what could happen to their NFL games and Chelsea won’t be able to use Wembley as their home whilst they redevelop Stamford Bridge

Me I would flog it. Buy a plot of land around Birmingham for around 50 million. Build a state of the art proper stafium like they should of done in the first place. Keep a couple of hundred million in the bank. 👍

There's no way that they're going to build 3G/4G pitches around the country. Do you have any idea how many they'd need? It's certainly not 1 per town. It's more like 10/20 per town. As a youth football coach who's had 15-20 games called off this season due to waterlogged pitches then I can assure you that the FA has absolutely not one single care about youth football. The money will most likely be spent paying off debts and providing elite youth players with elite facilities.

Nice to know that since I was involved in youth football 15 years ago nowt has changed. 😟

Completely agree with this, sad thing is to governing bodies this is "grassroots" in their eyes.

Tashy - why on earth would you build another stadium? All over the country now there are big/modern stadia that could easily host England games, no idea why you'd chuck money away building another one?

I think spurs are ok as they have a deal in place and Levy seems to be shrewd enough to have covered any eventualities. Chelsea could be struggling though.

Imo it should be left as is. I don’t care what anyone says. The FA Cup is still the National comp and the day out to Wembley for the final is the dream for players and fans outside the top 4(6). I can see the arguments for semis not being there as that it’s purely a money making exercise. But hosting it at Cardiff or any other stadium isn’t wrong imo.

How can you have grass roots development on plastic pitches. ;)

Im against selling Wembley. Its always been an iconic venue worldwide and considered to be the home of football. Yes there is still a debt to pay off on the rebuild but it is making around 10m a year. Too much of our sporting teams and stadium falling into foreign ownership. No need to sell it.
