Well done Wenger

Well one had a good run at winning the title, the other didn't. Would much rather be title contenders than 4th place contenders.

But one won a trophy, competed in the CL & qualified for next seasons CL. Different ways of looking at things.

That'll be 1st loser then!

Apart from some, not insignificant, extra Broadcasting Revenue, as Pinseeker posted, there's sod-all difference between 2nd and 3rd or even 4th.

Ha! Never heard 2nd referred to as first loser before :D

So automatic qualification for the Champions League, extra broadcasting revenue plus actually having contended for the title.

Would you say there was also sod all difference between a side finishing 8th and a side finishing 17th?

Not saying that Arsenal haven't had a successful season, I was comparing Arsenal's league campaign to that of Liverpool.

For Arsenal to have led the league for the majority of the season and then capitulate at the business end was very disappointing for a club and manager of such stature.

Not sure I agree about competing in the CL, I wouldn't class an annual repeat of scraping through the group stages before an inevitable Last 16 exit truly competing. I'd sacrifice the Champions League for a genuine run at the title.

I maybe wrong but I believe Arsenal occupied top spot the most this season. But it only matters who's top after the last game.
Is it really that impressive for one of the biggest clubs in the world to finish 2nd? :o

Think you'll find Liverpool blew it at the business end. Arsenal blew it before that:thup:

Think you'll find Rodgers came top 2, had the team playing great football throughout the season and very nearly edged the Championship as a complete outsider.

Wenger won the consistency league, as he likes to call it, by leading the league in January; failed to notice he didn't have any backup strikers and doesn't believe in tactics playing against the top teams.

Clear to see why Rodgers won manager of the year.

whilst I fully agree the Rodgers deserved the manager of year title. I think the reason Liverpool missed out on the title was for the exact reason that when it counted he got the tactics wrong. He's young though and was his first title challenge, hopefully he will learn.

I agree with 1 of the points. But the other 2 are rubbish imo.

2nd gives you guarantee CL group stage football and we also challenged for the title right until the last day.

The difference between the season of each side is clear as day even if the positions are only 2 places.

Yep, one of the sides won a trophy!!

The attitude of some Liverpool fans after one good season in the league is quite amusing.

I have no idea how winning the FA Cup could ever be described as a "bad thing"!!!?

As a Man U fan i would say be very careful what you wish for!
Can you really say the FA cup and CL qualification is failure.
To the Liverpool fans your Manager lost it through his inexperience ( If i was really vindictive I could say Stevie G lost it for you!)- his tactics against Chelsea were wrong. And at the end of the day Arsenal have a trophy Liverpool don't!
Football is big business these days and you can't scrap a successful business model without good cause, a single game or goal can effect a season - changing the manager is a big thing as we found out this year - Arsenal fans who want him out should think carefully who they would replace him with and whether they could guarantee what they have already ! The answer to that is no. A new manager would want to spend spend and has Arsenal got those kind of resources?
So Well done Wenger, it took a while but you got there!

Is the FA Cup still seen as an achievement?

Genuine question.

I had no idea it was actually on yesterday until I seen the result. I had the same experience with the Europa Cup Final on Thursday night.

Ranks at about the same level as my Bale for England blunder! EC is forgiveable as no British interest for some time!

Yes FA Cup is still rated - at least until your own team goes out

Rather downgraded though what with Champions League being THE main aim. ManU (understandably) preferring to play World Club Finals was a noticeable shift. Still watched by huge overseas audience!

What attitude ?

The FA Cup is a KO comp - it's irrelevant to the league. It's great to win a cup , it gives the fans something to celebrate after ten years of nothing. But it shouldn't paper over the obvious cracks in the Arsenal team - 10 years ago Arsenal went unbeaten in the league with a team full of stars , have they progressed in those ten years ? I would suggest they have gone backwards.

Look at their results against the others in the top 4 - they got a proper canning a number of times by the other top teams and they do need a lot of work - the reason why I say it "could be a bad thing" is winning the KO Cup could make some ignore the problems in the league. So much promise in the club but it's held back by the team on the pitch.

I don't believe anyone has called it a failure ?

It is still an achievement but don't think it is as highly regarded as it used to be - domestic KO's have taken a step back as the CL has grown.

Really? Having no idea that a cup that I have no interest in had its final yesterday and I had no idea it was on ranks the same as thinking the best Welsh footballer in a generation is English.

Puzzling.

Lu thibk the attitude referee to is that all of a sudden, some fans are deriding or at least questioning other teams season and status. Having had their (Liverpool's) best season in quite some time.
i agree that arsenal haven't improved in the timescale that you mention, how they improve on invincibles is difficult though. Win every game all season?

I can't recall all the big teams line ups, but I was gutted we played a weakend team at what at the time was a shocking Sunderland. FA cup for me is still the most prestigious comp in England. Mainly as saints have at least a slight chance at it. I would imagine that teams like Everton n spurs would go full tilt at it too. Winers get Europa and Europa winners get champs league next year. So surely that's a carrot?

My god, is it possible to have even one football conversation on here without Liverpool being dragged into it? Why the obsession?

This is a post on Arsene Wenger. I know football posts will always move about, but what has it to do with Liverpool?

Congratulations on winning the FA cup, a massive monkey off his back. Is he holding Arsenal back, or will he finally buy a Mascherano-like player and some good centre halves, and even 1-2 forwards? If he does and he wins future trophies, fair enough.

If he doesnt in the next 2-3 years, and they just keep finishing 3rd/4th and dont add to the trophies tally, he is just doing a more inflated version of what Newcastle's ambitions are (winning the financial security trophy).

Which one do you think will happen?
