Top 4 and a FA Cup win, not a bad season at all.

I'm so pleased and relieved for him and I hope that the press and the Wenger bashing fans get off his a case for a bit now.

It could be a bad thing winning the FA Cup because then it allows Wenger to believe his methods are working when its far from the truth especially in the league and CL. The team needs a lot of surgery to it.

We won the League Cup a couple season back and got to the final of the FA Cup which whilst was great just papered over the obvious cracks in the squad and the owners made a brave call in replace Kenny after a trophy winning season.

So whilst winning the FA Cup gives the fans something to celebrate ( at last ) - major changes within that squad are needed if they want to move forward

I wouldn't say major changes are needed. If Ramsey and others were fit for longer last season we could have run Man City even closer and may have even sneaked it. And losing to Bayern Munich in the CL was no disgrace either.

I'm sure Wenger will reinforce this Summer and with a bit more luck with injuries next year we can get closer to winning the major honours.

I agree the Ramsey injury cost us competing for the title a couple of additions next season and we will be close

Do you really believe that ?

Is that not the same every single summer with Arsenal though ? Constant injuries with certain players - Wilshire and Walcott two prime examples yet no cover for them. You have one striker of note and even he isnt a top striker , still have GK issues , still have an issue with strength in the middle of the park and still dont have mobile enough CB's. These arent new issues - these have been evident for a good number of years now and each summer Wenger buys someone that is not needed or doesnt fill the gaps or doesnt buy anyone.

Well pleased with today. And Ramsey getting the winner. What a player he has become.
Still need a striker and a hard case midfielder IMO, and will need to replace Sagna. Add that to the current squad and things will be looking good I reckon.

Completely delusional!

Not really the evening to bring it up but have you both magically forgotten being 4-0 down at Liverpool within 25 minutes? Losing 6-0 at Chelsea?

And you're suggesting that injuries are to blame. Completely wrong! Losing by those scorelines, something even the minnows avoid, suggests that something is wrong with the team preparation. Which lies with the manager.

Chuffed for the manager that he's won a cup, but it will vindicate in his eyes his approach and we'll be back scrapping for fourth next year.

Thats exactly the same opinion that a number of my Arsenal mates have

They want the FA Cup to be his goodbye so that he leaves on a good note.

I agree with this,I think Walcott as been a big miss.

From the limited times I've seen Arsenal this year I'd say they were 2/3 players away from a Title challenging team. They need a real combative midfielder and a Goalscorer who can score even when the team isn't playing at its best.. Sagna is going to have to be replaced as well.

But, I wouldn't suggest that Wenger needs replacing, he just needs to push on and spend some of the fabled warchest... I would be disappointed if he didn't dabble heavily in the transfer market this Summer though..

Arsenal run their Football Club as a business and have made a profit in all but 1 of the last 15-ish years (and then a relatively tiny one) even with the huge capital investment in a new stadium!

None of this £50 million a year loss for them!

However, that means that both the squad and quality are somewhat fragile. And Feb/March always seems to be the time when they suffer a downturn!

They are destined to be scrapping for that 4th (or at best 3rd) place every year with Sugar Daddies using clubs as toys. No wonder Wenger would be happy to see FFP Rule Breakers tossed out of European competitions! And I'm inclined to agree. Until that happens, it's simply another 'tax/fee'.

FFP is a set of rules brought in by UEFA and should have proper sanctions instead of being a way of UEFA to get some of the sugar daddies cash

Arsenal will have a much bigger transfer budget next season through business generated and sustainable revenue and I am sure that expectation and results will rise accordingly.

Brenda Rodgers won manager of the season for doing what Wenger does every year (finished top 4) & Wenger did it whilst competing in the CL & winning a trophy.
Seems like slating Wenger is the thing to do.

I believe 'proper sanctions' do exist in FFP. They do include Exclusion from European competitions.
I don't believe UEFA has any need to grab Sugar Daddies cash - though fines should be sufficient to be a wake-up call!

Whether the sanctions are applied properly is debatable, but I wouldn't have expected any club to have been excluded this year. If, in the future, only a couple (as opposed to 9 this year) breach the rules, then I'd deem the policy a success - especially as the amount of loss is reducing. The only issue I have is that the sanctions happen 2 years 'too late'.

I don't believe UEFA has any need to grab Sugar Daddies cash - though the sizeable fine should be a wake-up call!

Think you'll find Rodgers came top 2, had the team playing great football throughout the season and very nearly edged the Championship as a complete outsider.

Wenger won the consistency league, as he likes to call it, by leading the league in January; failed to notice he didn't have any backup strikers and doesn't believe in tactics playing against the top teams.

Clear to see why Rodgers won manager of the year.

2nd/4th not much difference really. I'd be more impressed if Rodgers had sorted the defence out & not shipped in 50 goals.

That'll be 1st loser then!

Apart from some, not insignificant, extra Broadcasting Revenue, as Pinseeker posted, there's sod-all difference between 2nd and 3rd or even 4th.

2nd gives you guarantee CL group stage football and we also challenged for the title right until the last day.

The difference between the season of each side is clear as day even if the positions are only 2 places.
