Wedges

I use a ping 64 wedge but I wouldn't use it for full shots, I use it more as a club to get the ball to stop quickly for little dinks around the green.

Anything less that 80 yards is a feel 56 wedge or a bump and run with a 7-9 iron.

I have 46*, 51* & 56* but the 51* 56* are getting a bit old now, the grooves aren't what they used to be so I'm looking at replacing them with a 52* and a 58* when I can find some spare cash. I used to play a 60* but I've got a hybrid in the bag now. Sometimes the 56* doesn't have enough loft & has too much bounce for the type of shot I want to play with it hence why I'm looking at the new set up.

pw , 54, 60

i spent a month doing nothing but hitting full , 3/4 and 1/2 strength wedge shots after reading something on here
, think it was bob

that 64 degree will do more harm than good unless your phil mickleson

I have read that bob vokey doesn't believe that 60 degree is suitable for most handicap golfers, he thinks 58 degree is plenty

Obviously can't argue with either of he aforementioned stars. But I think that the failure of amateurs to use those clubs is due to expectation. I'm not trying to play an Michelson like shots. Just standard full shot.

im all for having 4 wedges but even i draw the line at a 64 degree. i own one but its just for fun. i take it out sometimes just to muck around with. no doubt, they are alot of fun.

you should never have a full shot with a 64. it goes higher than it does lenght! its a crazy club lol

Think Seve said similar - and it's my understanding that his short game was ok

bob -

"PGA Tour players hit about 14 greens in regulation during
a round of golf, the weekend golfer hits about six," says
Vokey. "As a result amateur players need clubs that give
them more options around the green. Depending on the golf
course, they are better off having more wedges in the bag,
than maybe a 2-3 or 4 Iron."

id be surprised if bob vokey said 58 was enough saying that titlesist knock out wedges up to 64 degrees. david pelz says all players should have a variety of wedges (ideally 4) with various bounce options. i tend to agree.

I use a G5 SW 54 degree and a G5 LW 58 degree.

I also switch between a 52 degree blade style wedge for pitch shots that check up a bit and a 3i depending on my state of mind and how good my short game is at a point in time.
