Wedge set up question. What lofts do you use?

Best advice a pro gave me was that you can never have enough wedges, I have a 46º/50º/54º/58º setup.

When you say open the face of a 56 instead of a 60, doesn't that increase the chance of blading it and send the ball hurtling towards the target 1 foot off the ground at 100mph?

Yes it does because opening the face lifts the leading edge of the club off the ground. The amount it does that depends on the bounce and grind of th club.

I chose my 56 (well 54, but same difference) with high bounce and not much relief on the grind specifically for bunkers so wouldn't fancy trying to play a flop shot with it off a bare lie.

I used to have a 52 that you could almost lay flat without the leading edge coming up too much, so it depends on the club.

Bounce and grind, sounds like an R Kelly song! :)

I have Cleveland wedges, so my 52 and 60 are 12, and my 56 is 14 deg I think, so I can really only open the face of the 56 when it's sitting up nice, when it's a tight lie I wouldn't dare.

I currently have;

45 (PW)
52
56
60

But looking to fill the gapping with;
45 (PW)
50
54
58

This is exactly what I've just done through Clubhouse Golf, they gave me 3 for 2 on the 588's in Black nickel, customised the order as well so they're 2 degree flat, multi compound grips etc. Hoping to get them by Saturday. The gap between my PW and my 52 was just too great and I was really struggling to hit 100-115 yardages. With the new 50* wedge, I'm hoping that should go about 110 and give me a tool to work with around that yardage rather than really having to step on a 52 or really ease off a PW.

The loft of my new irons are a tad stronger than my previous ones and means I need to bridge some gaps.

My previous set up was PW@47, 51, SW55 and a 60

I'm thinking about going with 4 wedges - PW plus 3 others.

My current PW is 44 so the 51 and 60 lofts are too far apart. Also going to ditch the 60 and go with something like a 56/58.

Would my PW@44 along with a 48, 52, and 56 be a suitable mix or would you recommend something higher than a 56?

What are your lofts in wedges?

Ta

Its almost like sets will have to start coming with a sand iron again the lofts are so jacked I have always called 43 a nine iron so there is actually room for another club before you get to your wedges
