Wedge set up question. What lofts do you use?

I'm thinking of abandoning using my 56deg wedge for approach shots. The number of times I hit it full and the shot drops short - because past a certain point for me it seems like the harder I hit it the higher (rather than further) it goes. 52deg seems to work well for me for 'full' shots of around the 100yd mark. I could easy play it for 80yders and I guess I'd rarely get it wrong short.

My PW is a 44.....I've then got three wedges, 48, 52 and 58. My gapping is exactly what I want (full shots)

PW 125 yds
48 115 yds
52 100-105 yds
58 90 yds

58 is fine out of a bunker. Just open it up.

I have exactly the same setup, but my yardages are slightly further than yours

My PW is 46°, and my 'specialist' wedges are 50/54/58.

The other thing to bear in mind - especially with hot faced irons such as the X-Hot - is that you might have more of a gap from PW to GW than the difference in loft suggests.

Ideally you want to find a gap wedge that goes the right distance less than your PW rather than just x° more loft.

I have 15yds between all of mine, but my PW is very 'bladey' and not distance orientated.

The loft of my new irons are a tad stronger than my previous ones and means I need to bridge some gaps.

My previous set up was PW@47, 51, SW55 and a 60

I'm thinking about going with 4 wedges - PW plus 3 others.

My current PW is 44 so the 51 and 60 lofts are too far apart. Also going to ditch the 60 and go with something like a 56/58.

Would my PW@44 along with a 48, 52, and 56 be a suitable mix or would you recommend something higher than a 56?

What are your lofts in wedges?

Ta

Ended up going with Cleveland RTX Rotex 2.0 48, 52 and 58 to go along with my 44PW. Going to get them to the range this week for a wee hit to try and work on my swing. :D Hopefully it stays dry for the weekend and my round on Saturday.

My PW from my irons is 44, so I play a 50 and a 56 which gives me a consistent distance gap. I did have a 60 but ditched it for an extra hybrid. I can open the 56 for flops if required.
Best thing is to get your distances measured on a Flightscope etc.

Thinking of treating myself to a couple of Vokeys for Christmas. My pw is 46 and sw is 55. I'd like to fill the gap with a 50 and replacie my old Dunlop 60 with a vokey too.

I never take a divot and sweep the ball off the turf, would I be right in thinking I need lower bounce?

I have:
47°PW - 120yds
50°GW - 100yds
56°SW - 75-80yds

I also have a 60°LW, but very rarely put it in the bag since I improved my bunker play with the 56°.

56* high bounce, 52* med bounce. One for bunkers/rough the other for general play inside 100 yards. I am comfortable playing non full shots with it. If green is tight the 56 helps out inside 80 yards. Comfortable hitting them full to chipping.

I have a space in my bag but not sure where I would use a lobber. I guess it would be the same shots I play with the 56 from the rough but from the fairway and tighter lies

Good question, probably depends on the kind of courses you play as well...

so - what bounce set-ups do you guys play? Do you pay attention to your bounce set up as well as the lofts or do you just go for medium bounce?

My wedge set up is:

PW 43°
GW 48° - 8° bounce
SW 54° - 14° bounce
LW 60° - 8° bounce

The fairways of my home course are quite hard and many greens are elevater, so the low bounce LW comes in handy. High bounce SW is great from the rough and softer sand.

I have -

47 - PW
51 - GW
55 - SW
59 - LW

had the GW, SW and LW bent to 1 degree stronger to keep consistent 4 degree between my clubs

I'm shocked peoples PWs are 44degrees!! thats a 9iron!

48°; 100-130yrds
56°; 70-105yds
60°; <75yds

Can't remember the bounces, high I think, something like 10 and 12°

Not remotely fussed about any theoretical gaps, will vary distance and flight through ball position, shot shape, gripping down the shaft etc.
