anyone recommend a trainer type waterproof shoe.

Had a pair of merrels and they've barely lasted a year so looking for some replacements.

TIA.

I buy Karrimor. Never had a wet foot unless the water has gone over the sides.

The price is so good I can afford several pairs.

A friend, who is a podiatrist, recommended buying the ones with Vibram soles.

I've got 2 pairs of the previous incarnation of these, one waterproof in Gortex and one without. Had them for a coupe of years now and do around 15 miles a week dog walking in them. Comfy as anything and still going strong. Also really like the quick lacing contraption on them, works well, highly recommended by me http://www.wiggle.co.uk/salomon-x-ultra-3-gore-tex-shoes/

I have pair of Salomon boots, walking shoes/trainers and lightweight summer trainers
They have all been first class.
Boots/walking shoes are still completely waterproof after about 4/5 years wear.

I have waterproof socks I use with decent trainers for dog walking.
Mentioned this before and got some humorous flack but they work even if water comes overthe sides
😀

I got some wide fit 'trainer' style shoes from M&S a couple of years back...
Simply marked as waterproof and they have been every bit as good as the over expensive branded ones using Gore-Tex, Sympatex etc...

The trouble I found with waterproof socks is that if water gets into your shoes your feet still feel cold and wet, almost as if they are not working.

Both the wife and me bought North Face Hedgehogs - they use Goretex for waterproofing. Pretty lightweight and very comfy.

Second the recommendation for North Face, can get a bargain this time of year if willing to have last seasons colours. Try Snow and Rock

You must have bought them before Fat Ashley got his fat fingers on them.
I had a pair a couple of years ago, they split on the second time of wearing - TOTAL CRAP

I have always bought them in there, you must have been unlucky. I have been buying them for years because I 'live' in walking shoes and have a good mix of different colours. First pair to 'wear out' became my gardening shoes and they are still totally waterproof. I reckon I get 2-3 years out of the ones I wear most often. Most get checked because I scuff and stain the tops and there is only so much wear I want out of a pairs of shoes that cost less than £30.

Ps I but either Mount low or Mount high(boots) or the Aspen which have the Vibram sole

Historically I’d have said Brasher boots, however they were bought out by berghaus few years ago.

Luckily for me I own a pair of these

Absolutely superb. Best boots I’ve owned and I’ve owned a few.

Very light, totally waterproof and mines have lasted nearly 2 years of constant abuse. Yet a quick clean and polish they are as good as new.

Very supportive round the ankles laterally but lots of freedom of movement walking.

And the tread pattern is very grippy imo.

Great price too.

Berghaus make top line gear

Massive Ecco fan here, managed to pick up a pair of goretex boots which I use when walking the beach for fifty quid , they do a variety of walking shoes too, always worth looking on Amazon pricewise (search for your size and you may find the odd bargain)

Another vote here for north face hedgehog fastpack 👍

Currently have a pair of Merrel’s, about 3 years old and looking ragged, and they’ve been great. Wasn’t aware of NF doing shoes. Been looking for replacements this week. Need to try the NF’s.

Another Ecco fan here - both for Golf and any other trudging 'recration'!

I’ve had one pair of Scarpa boots (They do shoes too) for over 12 years.
They’ve been battered, Walking the dog, walks in the lakes etc.
Real lightweight but sturdy with loads of support.

The vibram soles are still like new but one has finally started to come away from the boot. I’m presuming the adhesive has Just hardened.
There’s no way I want to throw them so i’ll be getting them repaired.
Got a pair of Raichle too but I always wear the Scarpa.. Fantastic Boots!
